Rampage Restoration

Baah, after my Pac Man restoration fell apart I'm not really feeling inspired any more. I have also been waiting extra long on parts and artwork on these last few restorations, as either the artwork isn't done, is out of stock or the sellers are too busy to get it out to me. Kinda souring me to the whole restoration thing, as I only really have this summer to finish as much as I can, then baby # 3 will be here, and my wife will give me zero garage time after that day comes. I have 11 total projects, counting the 2 I mentioned (Pac and Rampage), and was really hoping to get it down to 5 before then. That's 4 more games after these 2. At this rate, I'll be lucky to get these 2 finished.

I can understand your frustration! Baby #4 is on the way for me, and I still need to finish that Simpsons cab, get my Baby Pac working, fix the monitor in my Radikal Bikers, Sound board in my MK1, and completely restore that empty Galaxian cabinet!

If it weren't for your threads I doubt that I would have ever made that Virtual Boy cabinet, which by the way currently had 58,243 views on Youtube! I even thanked you on my blog, I don't know if you saw it. Why would you. :D

Anyway, please don't feel frustrated with because of the setbacks with the Pac-Man cabinet. Just keep doing what you do!

Yep. Lurker here. Nothing to add except you don't need to cover up the anode hole when hosing down a monitor. Just blow it out with compressed air.

Well stripped and dropped off all metal parts at the powder coater this morning. Gave special instructions on the hinges, studs and threaded holes, we'll see how they turn out this time. Another week has passed and I am still waiting on my artwork and vinyl. *sigh*

What kind of dough does powder coating for coin doors? I always assumed it was expensive. I am tempted to get the coin door on my dynamo chromed. Crazy right?

I usually drop off 25-40 pieces including coin doors, door frames, marquee and bezel brackets, bolts, monitor mounts, control panels, joystick mounting plates, etc. This will be my third bulk lot drop-off and the first 2 averaged $75 per lot. I am assuming this load will fall between $80-100.

Wow that is a lot cheaper than I thought. I figured it would be in the same range as chrome. BTW if you wanted you could chrome an entire cabinet with Spectrachrome. Awesome stuff, they first paint the item white, then float powdered silver, and finish with a clear coat.

Edit:

I will stop now don't want to hijack your thread.

Anything ever happen with your vinyl Phet? I picked up a Rampage today, so I'll probably look at fixing it up once I'm done with my Ms. Pacman. Trying to get an idea of what's out there for side art and the CPO.

Well, I guess I can post pics of the inside since I have nothing else to do.

Before, ATX Power supply hacked in, not mounted, wire nuts far as the eye can see, dust and grime everywhere:

All cleaned up, bottom sanded, switcher wired in. I still need to paint the plate and the transformer, but I wanted to hook it all up and keep everything together for now until I am able to work on it again. (I tend to lose things and forget where they go when I do find them). After:

picked up a nice huo rampage the other day for $50 at a garage sale.. played the game once and hated it so much..

...best of luck with yours!

I see Rich has the art available on his site now, so does that mean you got yours? I'd love to see the results once you get a chance to apply it.

It's tempting to order a set so I can redo my cab, but not sure how worth it it would be since my cab has water damage and my CPO is so poor (and I have to take the molding off the door to get the cabinet back out into the garage! About a 1/2" too wide to fit).

I actually got an email and PM from him, just waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, I tried to restore my Monroe sticks, but I'd really love to find some NOS ones. Bumper Chrome spray paint will have to do for now:

That doesn't look half bad! I wonder how it'll hold up? NOS Monroes probably aren't worth it for the price they're going for.
