So a couple of days ago I was working on a Joust Arcade Machine. I switched out the coin door lights and added a new marquee light. I also opened the back of the cabinet to raised the sound. Now it's the next day. I come to take a look at it and the screen was frozen with gibberish. I shut it down and turned it on. got a red message stating, Initial Test indicate RAM Error 15. I opened up the back and the little red LED reeds 1-1-5 or sometimes 0. Any help? I'm assuming its probably something loose connection...

I dont own a Joust but i would look at the boards and try and figure out where the ram chipds are and are they socketed where you can reseat them and try reseating any interconnect cables. Luis

RAM chip 15 is bank 1 chip 5. The banks are numbered from right to left as the board hangs on the door. Bank 3 is closest to the battery holder. Chip 1 in each row is the top chip (closest to the center of the board).

Carefully pry the chip out and either one of the neighboring chips and swap them. If the RAM error follows the chip, you have a bad chip and need to replace it. If the error goes away, you probably had some corrosion on one of the chip legs and reseating it cleaned it up.

If the error does not move, you may have more significant problems.

Power issues will normally cause a 1-3-1 issue as that is the first RAM chip the test tries to read.

don't waste your money on the original chips.
just buy 4164 chips and the plug n play conversion adapter

24 chips= $24
Connector= $9
Shipping= $7

and you are done with ever having to think about it again. :)
--trust me, i learned the hard way and spent unneeded money on 4116 chips the first time around....

I just ordered a 4164 kit. Been meaning to do this for awhile - the premade harness and great price sealed the deal. Oh that and I just had a 4116 go out on Defender and I'm getting sick of that - lol.

Ordered it from twisty wrist (link above). Looks like on there in some places it says 4146, but either it's just a typo (for 4164) or they're calling the whole kit with the harness the 4146 kit. Either way I'm sure it will be awesome.
