RAM Controls Update

The difference it makes is amazing.. Have you installed them yet? It's hard to recall, but the Missile Command games came straight out of the crate with shiny balls! How many can actually remember that? I was an arcade game fanatic, so I was usually there to see brand new games un-crated and put on the floor.

Which reminds me, I never saw a Williams game (Joust, Robotron, Stargate, Defender, etc) work on the first attempt at the arcade - they always had a RAM failure. 4116 RAM has got to be the worst memory on the planet. ....especially if it was made by MOSTEK!! LOL

Dave

My old friend George Pimms, set the Missile Command marathon world record way back in the day. He smoked two machines in his official attempts. Bumpers Arcade brought in a brand spanking new Missile Command and unpacked it in front of the Guiness people for his record setting attempt.

There was a NOS Make Trax cabaret that was opened up at the NW Pinball and Game Room Show this year, and it had issues right out of the box.

I will be installing the Ball and spindles in a couple of weeks when things slow down a bit for me.

So does that mean you will be making them available at some point? I am game when they are for sale. I feel like my rebuild is not proper without it.

Already made them. My research revealed that there wasn't much demand for the part, so I have not made any fuss over having them available. I'm holding off on listing most of the individual 720 components while I ramp up to release the full controller.

Dave,

Received the cockpit t-molding and it rocks! Will be a great addition to the cockpits. Next day shipping (not expected) was an awesome addition as well. Thanks again.

What kind of price are you thinking for the 720 complete sticks? I have seen some for sale, and just wondered how they would compare.

Pre-sale price is $150, regular price will be at $200. After I offload the first 150-200 units, the pricing structure will be refit (meaning lower pricing for everyone).

I got some Atari parts from Dave, next day air! THANKS! !!

Any one know the specific size hole punch tool needed to get out the smaller pin on the atari sticks ? I was able to get out the larger pin, the tiny one is a little tougher. Also what lube is needed ? What about cleaning the inside plastic shell of the joystick, dishwasher ?

I think the prices suck. I mean jeez being KLOV'ians should get us at least a 90% discount right? ;)

Anyway in all seriousness I was going to suggest an option on the vector tubes. One should probably do a cost analysis including labor of the converging process. Granted you might have some person that can converge within 5 minutes but try using what you would feel would be an "average" time and look at how much having one converged will cost. IF there was a possibility of a substantial savings by doing the work myself then that's what I would personally order. You could do this with alot of your product.

For example:
I'm sure you're thinking, "Well what about the people that screw the product up trying to install then what?" Smart guy you are! Most companies have a return policy that it is at YOUR discretion to determine user fault or general hardware failure. If found to be user error then buyer pays full shipping back and hell how about a standard fee for tech time. Most people are coherant enough to put together a joytsick, solder components or ad artwork (ok in theory)

Hell I dunno - I guess ask yourself how much sooner can this product get out of your hands by offering the "do it URself" kits rather than driving the cost up because you are paying for assembly. As always .... full of ideas low on money lol.

Hey Deadly,

Oh, I hear ya on this one. I've considered it many times and on different levels.

I always fall back to my very first release item - the Major Havoc roller controller.

To date, I have received a total of three complaints about this controller. One of them I can definitely say was an existing defect (with a SCREW, no less). The other two were user fault. They thought they could align the bearing supports better and fubar'd the controller in the process. I actually use a special tool which lines up all four simultaneously, getting the perfect alignment needed for the controller to work exactly like it should. Anyhow, I didn't make these guys jump through any hoops, I just replaced the controllers, no questions asked.

One guy soaked me for a new controller (didn't get the old one back), a spare HAPP controls red board (did not get the old one back), two freebie LETA chips and an OEM Major Havoc controller at a VERY reduced price. And you know what? He still whines and complains about me every chance he gets. That proves to me that some people are simply irrational and impossible to please under any circumstance. The point being that I don't want to open myself up to additional ridicule or arcade-drama when I can simply assemble the controllers myself.

Given my "no questions asked exchange policy", I'm about 720% sure that I will build the controllers in-house to ensure that the construction is performed correctly. I'd rather warranty MY work and craftsmanship and not other peoples work. I think it's reasonable to go this route.

Dave

P.S. Though, something like a tube....I suppose I can leave that to the end user to assemble and converge. LOL

Dave, thank you for sending me Star Wars cockpit T-Molding overnight for free! I want to post before and after pictures. How do you suggest making a clean cut across the 1.5" molding? I want it to look perfect.

This is what I use:

It's a Roberts vinyl tile cutter...they run about $20 and you can pick them up at your local Home Depot. There are a few other choices which have a much larger cutting area, but they're much more expensive ($100+). This one should do the trick. Best part is that you get a NEW TOOL to put in the toolbox. :)

Speaking of tools.... That CAT BOX is cool. I tried, but no tradesies, just cash. (cat box is the tool, not evb)
