RAM Controls Update

I received my assault pivot ball assembly today via next day air as well :) Looks terrific. Can hardly wait to install them, as well as purchase a set for my 2nd stick. The t-molding is tempting as well. Thanks again Dave!

Thanks for the comments, guys. I'm sparing no expense to get these samples out to everyone!. I'm just glad to hear the positive comments. If you note any issue with quality, please don't feel that you have to tread lightly with me. I'm looking for honest reviews/comments, so don't hold back. I know a few here can attest to my ability to shrug off the ball busting. LOL

Enjoy those parts!! Oh, and keep watching for my next batch of goodies this coming week.

Dave

Well yes, overnight shipping on a complete freebie! You can't really ask for more!

I got a brand new 720 stick. Man this thing is beautiful. Don't waste your money tracking down NOS 720 controller parts. The stick and ball are bright and shiny and smooth like you wouldn't believe. I think the stick needs a thread of it's own.

Anyhow, thanks Dave. Your time and money getting these parts made is appreciated.

Hey Peepers,

No problem. I know this has been one sorely needed part for 720 controllers for a long time. Since this is the part you see sticking up out of the control panel, I'm surprised it never received any real attention before now.

Enjoy!!

Just read your saga about the star wars yokes on your site.......................
All I can say is wow, you have went through a lot to make sure they are perfect.
Anyone complaining needs a swift kick in the taint.
It is nice to see someone really taking an interest in these games enough to do what you are doing.

Thanks

Dave - That was crazy fast shipping! The box was sitting at the door when I got home from CAX tonight. I will try to be just as uick getting the parts installed.

Thanks,
Paul

Dave,
Will you be reproducing the pivot ball bushing for 720. Mine was lost at some point in its life, and I don't think anyone is selling these (at least last time I checked).

Hi David,

I zoned out around page 7 of this thread. I tried. If you still have any SW:CP T-molding left I've been frowning at mine for 5 years now. :( Anything I can do to help let me know.

I just got back home from my weekend at CAX and on my door step was a box which contained one of the freebies that was offered. It was the Atari logo stick PLUNGER AND PIVOT BALL which I need to fix the stick on my TOD stick. I really didn't expect to see it this soon.
Thanks, Dan

good to hear that the plunger and pivot ball work for the TOD joystick.. when i read "hall effect" i wasnt sure if it would work.. i may have to place an order soon.

I think that bushing could be unnecessary, if Dave could just make the interior diameter of the pivot smaller and lose the extra part. I guess he probably has already made 50,000 pivot balls so maybe the next 50,000 can incorporate my suggested improvement.

I've definitely had to go through a lot to get where I am right now with the SW yoke. I know why some people are critical about the yoke.... it's taken far TOO LONG. Add to that the fact that many have promised a yoke in the past and ALL have failed. Granted, I've obviously gotten the furthest.

RAM Controls is a labor of love.....it does make some money, but I push all of it right back in to fund more projects. This is how I choose to spend my money on the hobby. :)

Thanks for the kind words.

Already made them. My research revealed that there wasn't much demand for the part, so I have not made any fuss over having them available. I'm holding off on listing most of the individual 720 components while I ramp up to release the full controller.

Keep watching this week for my next lot of freebies. I'll try doing a weekly giveaway for awhile to see how it works out.

The pivot ball is used on several joysticks. 720, I believe, is the only one that requires the bushing to be used. It's because the diameter of the joystick shaft is a bit more narrow than all of the others. It makes more sense to widen the 720 shaft a little. However, then I would be swaying too far off the plan with regard to trying to keep as original as possible. Trust me, I did consider this. Then I realized 50,000pcs wouldn't cost too much....relatively speaking, of course. LOL

The difference it makes is amazing.. Have you installed them yet? It's hard to recall, but the Missile Command games came straight out of the crate with shiny balls! How many can actually remember that? I was an arcade game fanatic, so I was usually there to see brand new games un-crated and put on the floor.

Which reminds me, I never saw a Williams game (Joust, Robotron, Stargate, Defender, etc) work on the first attempt at the arcade - they always had a RAM failure. 4116 RAM has got to be the worst memory on the planet. ....especially if it was made by MOSTEK!! LOL

Dave

Just got the 4" Trackball & rollers. WOW! Very, very nice work. The craftsmanship is outstanding to say the least.

Thanks Dave!
