RAM Controls Update

If you've been watching the project blog, did you notice the FF shafts and knobs that were just finished up? The chrome plating turned out beautiful!! I think johnvv posted here on klov about it, in fact. If you use this as a gauge, you can imagine what the completed controller will be like. FYI, I do have the new pots available right now.

This project is a little way off since I have many parts to complete. However, as I finish up some of these older project, my time will free up a little so I can focus on the newer (relative) projects.

Dave

Heck of a nice gesture with the freebies (hence the long KLOV string). I'm not asking for a freebie, but I have been hitting your site monthly for the past couple of years because I am AVIDLY waiting for the FF joystick rebuild project to be done.

I bought Franklin's metal linkages awhile back and they made an enormous difference. The idea of being able to replace the crappy plastics on that gimbal stick with more durable parts (and nice new pots) is awesome!

Please let us know when that one will be done. I can't wait to get my hands on it!!!!

Glad to hear there is another quality repro guy out in the world.....Now, if we can just talk Darin into reproing FF sideart and Gauntlet sideart all will be right in the world.

Damn, I just got in from the garage working on my 720 restoration and this thread happened. Might just have to pick up the 720 joystick for the minty fresh looking restoration -- would look sweet.

I have been watching your site patiently for a while and always enjoy reading the progress blogs. Guess I haven't been there in a while as it really is shaping up nicely. Can't wait for the SW garb to be ready.

Keep up the great work Dave.

Yep, you have the distinction of being the oldest existing pre-order. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, but there it is. That means you get the first one off the line. I was thinking about adding some sort of serial numbering to the first 50-100 units. As in "1 of 100" or something.. But that might add a few weeks to the project release date. LOL

Still got some free parts floating around over here. Come and get 'em!!

Dave

That would be cool to have you engrave #001 on the yoke somewhere! (You can delay everyone else's yoke if you have to, just not mine.)

:D

dave and i have been doing business for awhile now .he is a stand up guy.lives nearby and comes over whenever i need something.he goes out of his way to make things right. ..its about time you posted dave.your knowledge will be a great addition to this forum.

When you say cones, is that the same ones that are on the midway cocktails?

If so how much do you sell them for? I have a cocktail that they yanked the wires out of the buttoms.
Thanks

Hello Dave.

Nice avatar. Fits the name. I've had your website favorited in my server for several months. Nice to see you're going to be chiming in more. Finally read thru all the posts on this thread, but noone else asked.....

What's the story with the SW cockpit? What's the process involved if someone buys one? Are they preordered, then you assemble and ship? Are they prebuilt already?

I've been checking back on that 720 project blog for years. It's great to see that progress has been made. Reproduced upper and lower housings would be an amazing feat.

SKATE OR DIE!!!

Hey dude,

Thanks for the kind words. BTW, cool to see you on here!!

As always, if you need anything just give me a call. :)

Dave

I believe that the Midway cones are different from the Atari cones. I can always look into reproducing the Midway cones if there's enough interest in them.

SW Cockpit repros are on the backburner at the moment. I've got way too many components to complete before I even worry about the full cabinet. Although, the cabinet design is completed and ready to cut as soon as I'm ready.

Since we're so far away from completion on this one, I have no process determined for purchase/shipment/etc. When the time comes, however, they will be prebuilt and ready to go. This is going to be some time, so don't get excited about it just yet. Watch the order/blog pages and as more parts become available, we'll get closer.

Hey Jeff,

Yeah, the upper/lower housing components are somewhat of a pain (which is why they're the last two parts I'm working on). The "bottom" housing was easy by comparison. LOL

I'm pretty sure the demand for this complete controller is either very low or dead right now, but I'm so deep into it already, there's no point in stopping. :) I seem to take on all of the impossible repros.

Keep watching.

Dave,

I've been watching your site for a long time. Sometimes life happens and many people here forget that. I am in for a Food Fight complete joystick when you get them done. I am also interested in buying a complete 19" Amplifone repro monitor, makes me want to buy another Star Wars.

Keep up the good work!

Do you have an approximate price for a 25" Amp tube? Also, I assume it DOES NOT come with the yoke attached or will we have an option?

Dave

Yes you do, and I can't help but applaud it !

For me the SW cockpit T-molding was my holy grail in arcade parts. It was by far the ugliest part on my cockpit and I knew there was no replacement. Until David comes up with some remark in some mails we had going on......"I've got 10000 feet of it produced, it's in the back somewhere but ready for shipping when I cut it".........

I could not believe it......

But (in case you missed it) here's the results:

Note: the canopy plexi's are not David's repro's. I've ordered 2 customs sets at my local perspex dealer. I chose to go with grey colored perspex as I really hate the bronze color and think the grey/black look really fits much better to the cab.

However, i've been helping David out with measurements on these, just like on the rubber floor matting and metal steps (that hopefully have arrived by now David ?).

I've criticized David before I had actually done any dealings with him directly and I still am embarrassed over it. He kept cool and absolutely correct in all his responses and he has been more than good to me when I ordered yoke kits and the T-molding !

David is king of the impossible to get parts, I hope you will keep up the good work !!

Hey Friz,

No price point yet, but they WILL come with the yoke attached. The cost of the yoke is negligible, so there's no point in not providing them with the tubes.

This is not directed at anyone in this thread, but at least ONE person seems to think these are going to be CHINESE POS tubes. No, no, no.. They're Korean tubes!! If you're gonna spread rumors, get it right. LOL

I'll take a nice clean Chinese POS tube over my dime sized burned original any day... or Korean... hell, give me a POLISH tube, I don't care!

Dude, have you ever seen Chinese made tubes? I call them firecrackers. I bet they make them in the back of one of their firework plants. It would explain a few things.

Hey dude,

Don't even sweat it. I'm glad you were able to restore that SW cockpit -- it looks awesome!! When I arbitrarily told you "10,000ft" I bet your eyes rolled. LOL I'm not sure if you knew at that time just how "over the top" I was with regard to having spare qty laying around.

BTW, I did just receive those two items. I've started drawing up with metal part and I'm sending out samples of the rubber to my suppliers. I should have the bracket back to you along with your next load of parts sometime SOON. ;-)

BTW, thank you again for all of your help.

Impossible parts? No problemo!!
