Ok. That's cool. It's being shipped USPS Priority Mail International as a Small Flat Rate Box.
The USPS website allows me to 'track and confirm' the supplied label number. But that just tells me that a Click-N-Ship® label has been created on USPS.COM, and the package has been 'accepted'.
Dan did warn me that USPS tracking was pretty useless, and I guess he was right! I'm not worried. It's only been a week.
USPS International Priority Mail has two levels of tracking depending on the type of packaging.
Small flat rate boxes only have very basic tracking. It will show that the package is accepted (if you take it to the post office and ask them to scan it in) and delivery. The up side to this is that is only costs about $13 to send to the UK.
If you ship using your own box then it does offer more advanced tracking similar to what you would get with UPS however it comes with a greatly increased cost. The minimum cost for that service level is about $27 for less than one pound. Quite a difference huh?
I have to watch my costs so for small orders I use the small flat rate box option. I have have very good luck and all the packages I have sent using this method have been delivered.
