I have an original non-working Rally-X cocktail game and wanted to get some input.....

Overall, it is a fairly good condition (even the glass is 'acceptable'). So, is it worth trying to repair the game to sell it or is it better to drop another Bally/Midway game like Pacman(although I would have to rotate/cut up the cab) and then sell it??

What matters most to you, originality or selling price? A Pac is easier to sell and will likely fetch a higher price.

Of course, if you are considering changing it to a Pac why not go all the way and install a 60 in 1 board?

if you're in it to sell, sticking a 60-in-1 in it and adding the extra buttons to the CP would give you the most bang for your buck. also, since Rally-X is on the 60-in-1 there would be no need to mess with new artwork.

60 in 1

OK, I wanted to sell it, but the 60 in one PCB is vertical isn't it? The monitor is currently horizontal to the controls...... Do you have the option for vertical or horizontal on the PCB???

Pac is vertical, too, so as he said, if you're going to go to the trouble of converting it to Pax, you might as well just convert it to 60-in-1. The multi has a verticalized New Rally-X on it, too.

Personally, if you were local, I'd buy it as a Rally-X. Love that game...

i forgot that Rally-X is horizontal since play the vertical version on the 60-in-1.

switching the orientation of the monitor may be a lot more work than it's worth. though really, if you were to repair the game i doubt you'd get more than $200-$300 out of it if even that in the current market. it's a tough call with the market as depressed as it is right now.

If it's in otherwise good shape, put a horizontal Arcade Shop board into it and don't hack it. Still can play RallyX and a few others. That way someone can still convert it back to RallyX at some time.

I'd love a RX CT myself.

You could also convert it to a Tapper CT since that was horizontal, but closer to a Ms.Pac style cab instead of a Pac style CT (slight difference)

i have a rally-x cocktail with both rally x and new rally x in the same table (just hit a button and it switches between games) i wanted to save it from being converted (i'm a preservationist) we put it in the arcade and woooow what a hit everybody loves it. even me. remember rally x was bally midways heavily favored game. it was anticipated by the company to be bigger than the simultaniously released pac man.that makes it cool in itself!

Yeah, I agree, leave it Rally-X (or maybe find a New Rally-X board). Friend of mine has a Rally-X cabaret, and it's fun to play. New Rally-X is alot easier, so I actually prefer that one...not quite as frustrating ;)

Aren't the Rally-X cabinets shorter depth wise then a Pac/Galaxian cab? Would a vertical monitor fit without modification? I swore I heard that some where.....

the rally x cocktails glass top and wooden top are 2-4 inches shorter lenghth and width size and the cab size itself is signifigantly smaller than a pac or tapper cab. and it's tight in there( it's tough even getting to the the release latches ) so it might be real tough to put anything else in there.

Interesting... because the flyer lists standard Midway cocktail sizing of 29Hx32Lx22D. Perhaps they did modify production units but with a 19" monitor horizontally, I don't see how they could make the 22" dimension any narrower.

let me specify the tapper-top is 24x34. the rally is 22x32. the base-tapper 27x22 rally 21 1/2x 20 1/2. both dedicated. i'm sure that the pac is the same size as the tapper if not close.

I own all 3 (Pac/Galax/MsPac) CTs and know they are the same dimensions for the top, and only the base of the Ms.Pac is made differently with slightly different dimensions.

Therefore the Pac CT must be the same size as the RallyX

Pac/Rally/Galaxian shared the same upright and Mini cab's as well, the only difference being they made RallyX's full size cab about 5" shallower than Pac/Galaxian since the monitor frame didn't stick back so far. On the Mini, they just didn't put in the plastic bubble on the Rally.

I'm told that Rally-X and Pac-man have different cabinets, but the same control panels.

Pac-man and Galaxian have the same cabinet, but different control panels.

Galaga and Ms.Pac-man have the same cabinet and control panels.

(I'm going to turn my Rally-X cocktail into one of the multigames before I get rid of it).

Identical other than depth since a horizontal monitor frame rotated vertically stuck out the back, the Pac is deeper by about 5".

Yep, exactly.

Galaga and Ms.Pac-man have the same cabinet and control panels.

Depends on a lot of stuff. Most Ms.Pac's are plywood and had wire mount coin bucket holders. Late models switched to particle board and stickers instead of paint. Only very early Galaga were plywood and still had wood coin bucket holders (like Pac/Rally/Galaxian). Almost all other Galaga were particle board and wire bucket holders.

Bosconian is the Rally-X to Galaga. Meaning Bosconian is identical to Galaga but just shallower since it's a horizontal monitor.

Finally, Super-Pac-man is essentially a Ms.Pacman plywood cab but with a notch in the side. BurgerTime was another sister cab to this period of production and is a very similar cabinet just with the extra bump outs for the sideart.
