Raised lettering coin door list - including WILLIAMS ??!!

in 25 years of arcade crap I have never seen these for Williams. Taito yes, Gottlieb yes, Cinematronics yes. Hell even GDI Destron. Never a Williams...

What games were they on?

(Also anyone have one of the standard [not over/under] ones to sell me?)

...Thanks to DJDNS for some of the pics.

cool.

Ah I have never had one of those. Wonder what other games. Clearly the over/under one isn't for a shuffle alley.

Here's pics of other raised lettering coin doors so this thread can serve as a spot for pics of all of them.

Any others and variations guys?

Centuri
Cinematronics
GDI Destron - over/under
Gottlieb -over/under
Taito
Williams
Williams - over/under

Im pretty sure I have every raised letter coin door made, well that I know of anyway. It was an obsession of mine for awhile. Including the rectangle Williams. Ill have to get a pic of them all one of these days.

I don't know of any additional lettered coin doors to add to the list, but out of curiosity (and I apologize for the threadjack) did the member asking about making repro taito and gottlieb badges go through with that project? I tried searching for it and couldn't find it.

Never a Williams...

Weren't they on a couple of pin coin doors? I seem to recall seeing a pin with one at some point, but I can't recall which one.

Also for the guy who asked. Ivanx makes the screened metal decals. They are great. Several other people make standard decals too.

Thanks for the link Scott, but I was talking about the actual raised letter inserts when I said "badges" above. My apologies for the confusion as I could have worded it better... I know there are more than a few of us out there with coin doors that have lost their insert/badge/raised letter part/whatever so perhaps one day in the distant future one of the metal guys will make them. Here's the powder coated coin door I have for Qbert currently. See if you can spot the missing piece :p:

I might have a blank if you need one.

There's gotta be some options for 3D printing these ..!

I have centuri, cinematronics and gottlieb plates, and 2 blanks for the over/under.

The doors are all Wico brand, I guess they were the only ones who made them ..?

I like the look of the raised logo coin doors....adds such a nice touch on the few machines they are found on. They look so much better than the "vanilla" coin door on most machines.

joust pinball...

Found a pic online...

So we now know the Williams raised letting coin doors can be found on their shuffle alley's (standard) and Joust pinball (over/under).

I was looking into casting them, but not die cast like the originals, just slush or sand casting. The cost was prohibitive, I believe a mold alone was $4k. Of course that was for a bunch of patterns on one mold, but I just didn't see the demand.

I was going to try casting one with silicone mold and resin like the mad planet inserts I did, but basement shenanigans have put that project at the bottom of the list. 3D printing might be the way to go.

3D printing might be the way to go.

Chris

I was just thinking that. Making the model wouldn't be too hard, it would be getting the surface texture correct. ABS might be a possibility with post processing. PLA would need to be coated with something. I think I have a Williams coin door with a raised logo I could experiment with.

I've also thought about trying to 3D print one (I've got a Gottlieb one)... just haven't gotten around to pulling and modeling it. I think if you sprayed it with something like truck bed liner (or some other thick-ish textured material), it'd mask the imperfections in the print and come out looking pretty good. It's not like a loss of some fine detail would be a big deal with these.

Might be out of my league here but I am a sign guy and I know a few people with CNC machines. These could be done out of a single slab of aluminum on a CNC then painted and glued on. Just a thought.

Yeah but don't you need the proper door piece as well? Was that door aluminum? Could both the door and badges be made on CNC from aluminum?
