I visited an op yesterday and I picked up a few boards. I picked up vapor trail, mr driller, and tumblepop.

he had a bunch or raiden boards. I grabbed a few. I had a few already (raiden, raiden II and raiden fighters).

he had(and I left)
raiden dx
raiden fighters 2

He had I think a few bootlegs, I think I grabed a bootleg raiden fighters jet (2000?)

He also had a strikers 1945 II. Any good? I have strikers 1945 for neo geo. I probably should have grabbed that..

he had a few stv boards with tecmo cup 98 and die hard, But I left those(I think I have both carts). I also left some SVC Chaos: SNK Vs. Capcom stand alone boards.

all the strikers games are great, same goes for raiden. i like dx more than fighters 2, maybe because dx isnt working in mame...

The original is still a great game, but will feel a little slow and sparse after playing the newer ones. Raiden Fighters (Jet) is cool. It lets you continue but has an interesting feature of not letting you advance to the final levels if your stats are bad.

I guess this could be kind of frustrating for someone if it keeps making them repeat levels, but it rewards the player that doesn't just plow through the game on continues.

The first Raiden isn't all that great. Raiden 2 is fantastic. Raiden DX is very similar to Raiden 2. I haven't played the Raiden Fighters games as much, but I did enjoy them. Ditto Strikers 1945, a great shooter series. I prefer the real boards over the Neo-Geo version, since the actual game is vertical. The MVS version scales it down and uses the side for info display. It doesn't look/feel as good as the real thing.

If I found a converted Midway cabaret cab, I'd build a multi-shooter with some of the Raiden / Strikers games.

Strikers 1945 II started my shmup obsession. I'd have grabbed that in a heartbeat.

Haven't played 2, but I absolutely LOVE the first Raiden Fighters.

Raiden II I feel put too much stock in the wrong kinds of difficulty. It's EXTREMELY punishing.

Raiden DX is just Raiden II with some tweaks.

There's bootlegs of RFJet? Interesting. I always thought the hardware was too expensive to reproduce.

i like fighters jet! but more a fan of cave shmups.

Cave started that manic trend that alienated me. You pretty much just hold down the fire button and spend your time and attention weaving through bullet barrages. That becomes tedious rather quickly. Raiden and other shooters of that era understood limited shots on-screen. A good player will not just mash the button but understand timing -- to shoot at enemies but reserve shots for concentrated up-close damage. This balance gives a game great replay value.

Raiden 2 does exactly this, at least when you opt for the purple weapon. If you don't mash on the button relentlessly, it's a worthless weapon.

CAVE games are like shooting puzzles with a very deep scoring system .
If you just play for survival you are doing it wrong although I can understand if you don't like the bullet barrage and small hit box .

Raiden Fighters doesn't have much to do with the first Raiden series , it was originally called Gun Dogs but renamed Raiden because the name was still so popular and they ported two ships from Raiden to the original Gun Dogs five .
I like Raiden DX and Raiden Fighters 2 is my favourite from the Fighter series .

this.

If your playing for score they are really technical and there no better feeling that breaking the score your aiming for

I have had regular Raiden for around 8 years and its a pretty good game for its genre. I have always wanted a Raiden II board but it hasn't happened yet.

Hey call me Barry Gibb because I'm all about staying alive. True, we can give ourselves unlimited credits but what kind of gamer does that make us? I keep a stocked bill changer and all my games locked so I'm forced to spend my own money and try to get far every time I play. Unless you mean something else. I do think Fever SOS nails most of the marks for a good vertical shooter, among other newer game. Oh, and if you haven't ever played it, check out GunNail by Taito. It makes neat use of a missile sighting system while still being a good shooter and doing some really trippy stuff with the background movement.

I went through the boards, I got:

strikers 1945 II
strikers 1999
raiden fighters jet 2000 (not in klov?)
tumble pop
mr driller
vapor trail

I also got(freebies):
raiden that has a motion graphic problem (they looks like broken shadows)
raiden fighters with a weird color problem (Like bleeding/missing/flickering colors)

He might have extras of the strikers and raidens if someone really wants them, I can ask.
