Radio Shack lives!

I'm surprised they're still around at all. They've been hanging on by a thread since the 90's. IMO, they really died back in the mid 80's. Not that they were every really any good, they got a lot worse after the mid 80's They we're sorta cool in the late 70's because they had a lot more electronic components back then.

Very sad. I've given them many dollars for decades and were the only local place that sold so many parts and supplies that I wanted.

According to the article, Radio Shack's only keeping 28 retail locations open. That's fewer than ThinkGeek, who was hovering around the 40 mark last I checked.

I wonder if the irony of a predominantly online retailer having more physical stores than a retailer whose model has been almost entirely brick-and-mortar based is lost on Radio Shack's management.

The closest one to me is over an hour and that's not accounting for traffic through Dallas/ Ft Worth. Guess I won't be seeing their storefront anytime soon.

We had a couple locations that all shut down. Last weekend I wanted a block fuse holder, something that have gone to Radio Shack for. Took me about two hours calling various places before I found some. They were great for common parts like fuses, caps, resistors, diodes, pots.

all businesses that file bankruptcy and don't have to pay their bills or suppliers and stay open is BS. all those little guys (suppliers) that have to take it in the shorts so they can keep lining their pockets is absolute crap and they should shut them down completely, all 100% of their operations. over the years i have had way too many of these type of companies file bankruptcy on some of my companies which means i have to work harder to make up for those losses. its a dead horse so put it out of our misery.

Well, 28 company owned stores. The independently owned stores are a different matter so I expect that number will be somewhat larger.

Wile the company owned Radio Shack which was only 2 miles from my house closed down we do still have 2 independently owned stores in the area. One is 6.8 miles from me and the other is around 20 miles away and they carry many other brands besides Radio Shack. They also have a larger electronics parts cabinet assortment than a regular Radio shack had. They call themselves GizMoes.

Well this might explain why the website no longer tells you what's in stock at the stores. That was the only useful thing left about their webpage. If I needed SOMETHING that Radio Shack would actually have.... I wouldn't have to drive half an hour to find out that it's out of stock.... to turn around and drive an hour in the opposite direction to the other nearest store to find out it's not there either.

Bummer. I loved Radio Shack back in the day. They were everywhere. They had everything. I miss that 80s version. Actually, can we just have the 80s back altogether? :(

Just not the hair. Yuck!

So, who is going to go their website to buy a bunch of over priced junk to keep them out of bankruptcy a 3rd time?

Even at 50% off, a lot of their stuff is too expensive.

Actually, the price I got wasn't bad. I was looking for Deoxit locally and Radio Shack popped up... (though it was mail-order only) ... and it was only 4 cents more than Amazon. The Shack has free shipping on $25 orders also. Not bad. I just don't need $25 worth of stuff from there at the moment. Amazon... I could probably find something to make that.
