Race Drivin stand up compact

Thank you Atari1978! I think I will use a typical Happ Green square illuminated button and call it a day.

I have reached out to Game On Grafix to replicated the control panel overlay and the decal at the back of the seat, in case anyone else needs it as well,

P.S. I have seen different color variations of the compact on line. Is the cab actually white or black? I will be laminating mine and would prefer to have accurate color.

@silvereagle

You are most welcome, happy to try and help.

I am sure the Happ green lamp switch will likely be the more economical way to go. I am just more oriented towards trying to get everything Atari back the way Atari had it. The original fix I mentioned with covering the hole in my hacked up CP and putting in a new Licon LED switch worked just fine (didn't look that bad either). The replacement CP I later found and put in mine, of course, while nice, even back five years ago, was not cheap.

As far as I know Compact Hard Drivin' was white.

(edit / add: though I have seen photos of some black too. Here's photo of a flyer for both the cockpit and compact upright);

Very few seem to have the original side art left. Mine still had the behind seat art and still does. I came up with a crude fix on mine after I refinished the cabinet white, I found a pair of large "Atari Games" and checkered flag side art for some other Atari racing game (I don't recal which one) and put them on the sides just to have something on them. I long gave up trying to find original side art. Though I think you can still find it for compact Race Drivin' but obviously that is a different game.

Here's thee nicest Hard Drivin' compact I have ever seen. I missed buying this by, apparently, a short time. A very fortunte collector in Canada got it before me. :)

Thanks for the info Mike. Luckily Galloping Ghost has the reproduction side art for the compact, but not the seat sides which is unfortunate. Would be great if anyone with a compact could scan theirs. I plan to scan my cockpit soon and have GOG reproduce it as well, since there is no artwork for the cockpit anywhere it seems.

Welcome again.

I did not know Galloping Ghost has the repro side art for CHD. How where did you find out about this? Do you have a link for it?

Best, Mike

Guys, can someone post up a photo of the wiring at the coin door? The wiring on mine is all chewed and cut up. Can't make sense of which wire is which. There are 6 in total coming out of the molex Connector.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, right here.

See the photo of the flyer above / earlier. Ths Really tall game on right in it, white cab, is Compact Hard Drivin'

Does that help?
Sorry, I was making a joke because it's hardly compact. I know the game. I liked it. It was a lot like "Stunts" on the PC and was probably the "inspiration" for "Stunts", which I spent many hours playing.

Hi Wade,

I thought you might be making a joke and almost put that in my first reply. Anyway, it is big / tall. I guess the reason it's a "compact" is because the footprint of it is a lot smaller than the cockpit sit down version of it.

Best, Mike

Thank you ATARI1978, those photos definitely help. I couldn't make sense of which wires connected to the bulbs, but your photos are nice and clear.
Glad they helped.

Best, Mike..

Yes, right here.

Thanks again!

Wish I had seen these about five years ago when I was restoring mine. Maybe they weren't available then??? Ok, I may buy these anyway and then, if and when I have any courage and strength to haul that behemoth back out of my gameroom to my garage I will put them on. I will have to strip those other Atari Games logos / checkered flags art back off, refinish it (again) and I think you have to pull the monitor and maybe the CP too other wise you have to deal with those carrage bolt ends that will mess up the side art. Easier to put the art on first and push the bolts back through it. UGH! I am am already realizing how much work this will be. Again though I may still buy the art just in case or to pass it on to the next owner.

All the Best,

Mike.

Mike, just for clarification, the white blue is positive into bulb and white green is ground into bulb as well?
They are all white blue on mine. I think it is 6 VAC to the coin bulbs are they not? It wIll not make any difference. Added two more closer photos . Looks like the left coin bulb feeds the right coin bulb. Again all these wires are white with blue striping.

Thank you Mike! Looks like the only white / green is ground to the coin door nut.
Oops, sorry I missed that lone ground wire ( yes it is white / green) it was hiding behind the white / blue power wires. So yes you are correct.

Best, Mike.

@silvereagle ,

Does yours have one of these little Atari stamps on the particle board inside the coin door next to where the right coin mechs drop the coins through?
