Does anyone have any good resources on the internet about a Race Drivin' Conversion on a cockpit?

I have a working Hard Drivin cockpit that I would like to convert to a race drivin. I am unsure on the process. Is it possible to just swap the main PCB from a Race Drivin cockpit into a hard drivin cockpit? Can the hard drivin pcb be upgraded to a race drivin using chips from a donor board?

If I were to purchase a compact Race Drivin PCB would I be able to pull eeproms and create a Race Drivin PCB?

Sorry for all of the crazy questions. I am pretty unknowledgeable on this and have not found any good information online..

Thank you!

I see that a few people on here have converted a Hard Drivin. Has anyone by chance done a thread or documented it?

Have you looked at the conversion manual? There is alot of good info in there. My RD is a HD conversion. The eprom swap between a compact and a cockpit won't work. You should be able to just drop the RD cockpit boardset into the HD cockpit with good results. There are a few other things that would need to be changed to make it a true RD, including the stick shift.

Thanks Dan! I had not seen that pdf before.

Does anyone know the deal with the shifter? Must you get the new shifter for it to work? What is different on the shifters?

Thanks!

Shifters are relatively similar aside from one major difference - the Race Drivin' shifter uses a solenoid to lock the shifter in gear, whereas the Hard Drivin' uses an electromagnet, similar to what's in the seat to hold it in place.

I'm *guessing* at this point that the Hard Drivin' shifter will work with a Race Drivin' board, seeing as all the game's doing is applying voltage to either a solenoid or an electromagnet, but I haven't confirmed that yet. I have (2) Hard Drivin' shift assemblies and (1) Race Drivin' assembly in my garage waiting to be tested when I start restoring/re-assembling my converted Race Drivin' cockpit.

Just an update for anyone interested. I received a Race Drivin PCB for my cockpit and it went right in with no issues. The shifter is a little weird. It bounces back and forth in gears and you pretty much have to have your hand on the shifter at all times when in manual mode.

I cannot say how happy I am to play this game again after all these years. Now I just need to find a seat magnet and the race drivin shifter parts needed.
