I only get the drums. No music. I need some help from someone who owns and can flip into test mode their own Race Drivin' cockpit. Hard Drivin' cockpit should work, too.

I went through all the test screens, ran every test known to man, everything comes up great. Problem is, there's no music. There's sound, in fact all the sounds test out OK in the sound board sound tests, but not the music.

Can anyone point me to where and how I can run the music tests? I thought they were in the section for sound tests, but now I can't find it.

Also, can someone tell me what EPROMs they have in the lower left section of the sound board? I seem to have an odd one that shouldn't be there. According to Jed's site, anyway.

I dont remember there being any music test, just a sound test like you said. So your problem is you are not getting music in the game, like when you are selecting your car and track?

It's in there, I saw the test for it but I can't find it now for the life of me. And yeah, that's the issue. Drums, but no music. Ever.

lol mine has a simular problem im missing some of the trumpet type sounds... selftest shows a ram error i forgrt which one.. ive never been bothered with it enough to go after it i figure its a krappy socket sometimes its happy sometimes its not..

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I didn't dream it. I specifically remember hitting each and hearing nothing on some of the selections. I'll have to try again tonight and see if I can track it down.

have you tried it in mame? Mine gives no errors, and i don't think it has any music during the select screen either, just the drums. I know hard drivin did, but i'm not sure that RD does.

MAME was the trick. I am missing a crap ton of sounds. I have a total of something like 84, and MAME reports more than twice that many. You get to the "play songs" menu by moving backwards through the list and it magically appears as you pass the last sound. I have a bad or missing ROM(s) for sure.

Next question - on the control inputs screen - should the line voltage stay still or go back and forth between min/max?

Alright, got some answers for you.

1. My line voltage stays constant. You seem to have an issue there.
2.The red letters/number that you get at the self test, I have those too. No issue there.
3.My coin door lights pulse with the music test as well. No issue there.

Let me know if i can help you any more :)

Talked with Jed Margolin (designer/creator) and he said the line voltage is supposed to move left/right. He definitely thinks I have a EPROM issue. Having hobbyroms.com make up a new set of sound roms.

Also, he said the APU is not supposed to pulse the coin/seat adjust lights. He thinks there is a problem there. Too bad both my APU boards do this. Troubleshooting time.
