R-Type Restoration

Awesome as always. Excellent job on eliminating an edge to the existing artwork. Now I want one!

I wish I started this thread and not that 'other' one. :)

The game is pretty cool, for sure. Incredibly hard. You can download the PSone version for the PSP. It's a direct port of the arcade game including the insert coin part. Very hard yet fun. Love it, Phet.

I always never thought of it as a true ninty game but seeing it in a row really makes me feel otherwise. Awesome.

Is the video inverted?

I believe so Johnny, as this game has a big old Sharp XM whateverwhatever monitor mounted in it. I am seriously shocked at how detailed the graphics are. If HR Geiger had designed any video game graphics that were lost to history, I believe I found them.

Chris25810 looks at your "restoration" and laughs. He told me he paints cabinets before putting them in his truck upon pickup.

Looks good man, and its probably refreshing for you not to have to completely tear a game down to make it look real nice. I'm also guessing since this cab was black, it made the painting/feathering w/ the artwork much easier than the Popeye cab you did?

This reminds me of Blkdog's Domino Man restore. A fine job by both of you gentleman.

Glad you like the game, too. IMO, its better than Gradius, and that side art is fucking cool.

That's interesting as my PC-10 that is in the same cabinet has an original WGK7000. I would have thought it would have the same monitor.

My PC-10 has an amazing picture too, there is something magical about the tinted glass they used on these cabs. It's outstanding.

Ahahahahaha, ain't that the truth. At the auction Saturday, I thought he was gonna strip that nearly flawless Lunar Lander artwork off the cab right after the gavel fell. I saw him on his celly making plans to allocate funds and start the screened repro before they even started auctioning off the next game.

This paint job was awesome. I rolled on 2 coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss oil-based black cut with 10% penetrol sanding with a 180-then 320 grit sanding block between coats. I then hit it with 320 again, then used 2 grades of steel wool, then rubbing compound, then polishing compound, then a power buffer, then a hand buffing, then glass cleaner to get the finish smoother than Fritz's coinpurse after a sasssy salon visit. I then polished and sealed the cpo, cross piece and kickplate paint with Armor All. Turned out really nice. The back door, bottom panel and roof OSB (oriented strand board-ugly shit) was also painted semi-gloss black. The inside was cleaned out, scrubbed and all stains sanded out. Looks pretty new in there. The only thing I still need to do is repaint the monitor chassis so Chris doesn't yell at me.

Whoa, other than the yellowed marquee, mine looks to be in nicer condition than that one. Maybe Ninty shoulda contacted me before putting their flyer together:

And my marquee is different too. Weird.

Yours is the standard marquee. I have that exact same one...yellowish and everything. The button colors on the flyer however, are accurate; blue & green for player 1 and 2, and black & red for force and fire buttons.

Yeah, but the one in the flyer has coin door locks

Now you sound like Krackerjack. You guys restore a few machines and the next thing I know you become secret card carrying members of the Restahpo. I don't have the keys for these locks so I haven't put them back on yet. Don't wanna lock myself out again. I had started a thread on the ninty tube lock serial numbers vs matching keys, but as usual, no one had useful information to add.
