Might have the chance to scoop up an r type, problem is I dont remember playing it alot...
Please feel free to flog me with your opinion on the game.
Is the dedicated version just a VS cab?

One of the best side-scrolling, space shoot-em-ups (SHMUPS) out there, hands down. I've owned one for a while now, and I love it. (You wanted my opinion, right?)

It has it's own dedicated cab, not a generic VS. cab, but it was put out by Nintendo, even though it was programmed by Irem.

+1 on this. Very challenging, excellent shooter. Great looking game Trickman.

Great series of games. It's probably my favorite dedicated Nintendo cab next to the dual PC-10 and the custom Dr. Mario that's lurking in the restoration boards. It's on my "B" list of wants, where I would own it now if this were a perfect world where I have unlimited cash and space.

I think $250 to $350 is about right for pricing on this.... I know where one is for $250 but its been sitting on a covered porch for a while and has to be getting rusty by now!!!!

The game is ok. But to me it seems the replay value is low.

And yes, the dedicated cab is the same style of cab as the Nintendo Vs. cabs, as well as the dedicated single-monitor Playchoice 10 cab.

People that love it will really hold onto it. I bought one for $40 that had a NW monitor. I got if fixed and cleaned up. I sold it for $250 and it was a 7/10 cab or B- condition...

there's no gold mine there... let me tell you. It's oddly worth more parted out but a sad story for an R-type.

I restored mine then sold it for 5 bills. Later that year, the dude who bought it sold everything and got out of the hobby. I think the game is cursed. Also, a little tech note, the 2 R-types I have seen both had real scratchy/screechy sounds in attract mode until a game would be coined up. Then the sounds would go back to normal. Both games had the attract sound dip set to 'off' because of it. I turned mine on right when I bought it, but then I always coined up a game immediately after the game booted to prevent the embarrassment.

I got mine for 300.00 working but with a couple of monitor issues. Cab is in great shape. It has a jamma pinout, so I like that I can test jamma boards in it as well.

I always felt this was a good candidate for the "multi" treatment (except for the non-jamma hurdle). NO! Not the xx-in-1's. I meant running multiple versions of R-type in one cabinet. I can see R-Type 1 getting kind of stale if you aren't hardcore into the genre, don't like trying to 1 credit/1 life games and have zero restraint when it comes to adding credits and continuing. To me, having all three R-Types in a classic chunk of wood seems like a fun idea.

I remember Prairied's R-Type...didn't it get passed around and go unloved? Poor thing. :(

R-Type: An IREM game published by NINTENDO. That's why you see it in the VS cabs.

IMHO: great game, a classic, and worth the buy (at a decent price) if you're in to shmups.

But, R-TYPE Leo gets a lot of talk.

pasted on to a KLOVr that parted out the kit and converted the rest to a Playchoice and then ended up selling it.... odd
