R.I.P.? Super Bear Arcade (Big Bear, CA)

Has anyone been up to Big Bear and taken note of what happened to the old Super Bear Arcade building?

i got my atari fire truck game from Alan a couple years ago. i once saw on super auctions web site that they were going to auction all the games and building but that was awhile ago

I was just up there over the weekend. My last post was a mistake, the Super Bear Arcade is closed and locked up, but all of the games are still there inside in plain view through the windows. I did read a little article in one of the local pennysaver type papers that a new arcade is supposed to be opening up in a different location near the Bowling Barn around Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the article mentioned redemption, and newest deluxe arcade games, and mini rollercoaster/rides. I'll likely be back up there in a few weeks, so I'll post again if I get any more info.

Super Bear Arcade

I have many memories as a kid going there when we wnet to Big Bear.

My sister owns a shop across the street from the arcade. She said that the City would like it reopened because it was good for the Village. She said that the gentleman that owns the building and most of the games sub'd it out to an operator that didn't do a good job.
When that op left, the owner just decided to close shop and keeps the exterior in good order for the City.

This is a great update. Maybe those games will find home in another arcade or with KLOV members, if contact info can be found...

I knew a guy who had a skating rink who did the same thing. He would sublease it to somebody to operate, and then close it when he got tired of them.

So in other words, it may end up opening back up down the road.

Was up in Big Bear last weekend and made it out to see whats left for arcade games in town. The Bowling Barn is better IMO and the Funplex is big, but not much in it. There is also a Family Guy pin at the lodge at Bear Mountain.

Thanks for the scouting + pictures. Did you go by the closed Super Bear Arcade again?

Yeah went by there and doors still locked and games still inside.

Argh.

I'm envisioning a bunch of classics sitting without being looked after, mice running around, heavy snow eventually causing the roof to leak...

I am posting from my cell phone. I am standing outside the Super Bear Arcade. It is closed and all the games are still inside. It looks like the roof has begun to leak as the floor right inside the door is crumbling. Ill getsome pics and post th when I get back.

Wonderful.

Thanks for the investigative work, though. Look forward to your follow-up.

So, pretty much the worst-case scenario might be starting to play out...anyone have connections to save the games? There are some excellent ones in there; I'll see if I can post some old pictures.
