I have to be honest, I saw this coming back when Future US took over and they switched Editor-in-Chief. It went downhill from there. I stopped my subscription maybe 3-4 years ago. It definitely was a better publication back before the internet and when they used to hand make/draw/shoot everything.

My little brother bought me a nice issue #1 with everything in tact for my last birthday. I'll be framing it.

I had actually stopped my subscription 3-4 years ago as well. I didn't forsee the demise of Nintendo Power, I just didn't feel like it was worth the price. So now Nintendo is the only mainstream console without it's own dedicated magazine??? That can't be good. It's a little harder to create hype when you don't control what is on every page of at least one publication...right???

Yeah, that was ultimately the cause of the demise. The internet and modern publications. I remember getting my last issues of Nintendo Power and thinking, "I knew all this months ago. Why am I paying for this?" There was no extra features or columns that made it interesting or worth it. It was basically regurgitating topics I could find via Nintendo.com, email, IGN, Gamespot, etc.

I found it to be a much better read like 20 years ago. I'm actually surprised it held on as long as it did in the internet era.

the number of readers at 475,000 is pretty impressive.

I never had a subscription during the golden days. I picked mine up around the time of the Game Cube. I had it for a year or two, but then stopped. I tried picking one up a few years back (actually, was gifted) but they never showed up, so we got a refund...

I have always enjoyed the magazine, though. It will be sad to see it going.

I use to read it alot before the N64 came out. It as something I always looked forward to back then. Be nice if they did like just digital version for i pads.

I was thinking about this the other day. The death of the old school systems and game makers. If you had told me 20 years ago that there would be a day without a Sega system, I would have asked you what you were smoking. I assumed Nintendo had followed the same fate, but at least they still have a console market.

I guess I am glad that I didn't sell my set. They will go up in price soon.

Edit:
Here is my well read issue #1, I have had that since the beginning.

Wait! Did you notice that mine says 20 page spectacular, and yours says 18 page? Also yours says free sample copy and mine says free poster?

I remember reading it in 6th grade and loving it. This was probably 89, or 90? I can't remember lol. I remember a guy in 7th grade told me that he went to some store and bought a Trapper Keeper, and it came with a free sub to NP. I never got a sub. I'd read them when borrowing them from friends. My favorite issue was the one on Metal Storm. I wanted the model they used on the cover so bad.

I don't know why, but I never read a single issue of Nintendo Power. A few of my rich friends had it, but I just wasn't interested. When I needed help on early NES titles, I used this:

That guide was essential to me beating Metroid and Rygar.

A few months ago I posted about how I found my old briefcase full of Nintendo Power and Tips N Tricks magazines. Everyone always called me a hoarder for keeping it all these years, but now I'm glad I did because I will take them out and read them again in memory of good old NP.

I had a subscription back in the 80's-90's and I agree it went downhill after that. Then I canceled and subscribed to OPM and GameInformer instead.

Still sad to see it go... I feel like something significant has just happened, although I can't put my finger on exactly how significant it truly is at the moment.

Memories Man Those days were great. You didn't have to go to work just play and figure out codes and new levels with your friends. Tis a sad day.
I'm sure glad I saved all my issues from 1-88 I even pull some out once in a while when I'm sick, or a rain day and can actually play the NES + SNES again.
