Wow, that's ridiculous.
Does that apply to all rhythm games or just Guitar Hero? I'm pretty sure DDR/ITG uses at least some copyrighted music./
Right now it applies to GH. ASCAP has DDR in it's sights now.
I've heard some operators sold their GH games to Mexico rather than pay $800 a year per machine to the ASCAP goons. In Mexico, they don't have ASCAP.

Guitar Hero did focus on metal, and extremely difficult note charts. The result: Guitar Hero didn't sell and is now discontinued.
Rock Band focused on popular and fun to play songs. It might not be the juggernaut it was in 2008, but they didn't ruin their brand name and it wouldn't surprise me if they have a resurgence.
Just curious, how do they enforce this license? How are the jukebox versions of this typically enforced? Randomly checking locations?
BUMP
thank god this happen, hated guitar hero...
at the arcade when i was playing some MERCS i over heard some kids saying "WTF is this? they copied Guitar hero!" Guitar Freaks copied Guitar Hero, yea they sure did but wait Guitar hero currently has like what 6-7 different Guitar Hero games?
