I always do before trying to remove components, but often the solder on the parts side doesn't want to come out. Any hints for dealing with that?
Suck the hole clean while pushing the pin out, then flip the board over and use your iron tip to push each pin off of the outside of the hole (if you do it all right, you'll hear a little click for each pin)... and then use a chiplifter or small screwdriver to wiggle the chip out... if any legs are getting pulled and arent' realeased from the board, flip it over, resolder it and try again.
