I have a Nintendo Cocktail (DK JR) and when I put my DK board in it, the image fills the screen perfect vertically. However, when I put my DK JR board in, there's a good 2 inches of black on each side of the game image. I understand I need to adjust the horizontal size to make it fill the screen, but I'd imagine the DK and DK JR to be interchangable without adjustments.

I guess my question is, does it make sense to need to tweak the monitor after switching these boards? It's not like going from a SFII to another JAMMA board by another manufacturer made 10 years later.. I'd expect tweaks in that situation. But from DK to DK JR?

There are (2) pots on the Nintendo PCB's board top edge that allow you to adjust left/right and width. Set the monitor to match your DK and then swap in junior and use the pots on the junior PCB to center and scale the image full width.

Nah the pots don't do any scaling.. one handles vertical position and the other handles horizontal position but neither scales.

Yep you're right the ole memory fails me I guess sorry. However PCB swaps and having to re-adjust isn't out of the ordinary especially in the JAMMA world (since you mentioned it). Sucks for sure.

Yeah man, I hear you. I'd think that DK and DK JR would be the same, though, being the same hardware and all. I just don't feel like tearing the monitor out of the table again and will have to live with it for now. :)

It is very common to have to make those adjustments when chaning from one boardset to another. It doesn't matter that 1 is a Dk and the other is a DKjr. You could experience the exact same problem between 2 DK boardsets.

Ok, that's cool. What causes it, then? Assuming both DK boards in your hypothetical situation were 100% the same and manufactured with the same components, I'd expect them to have the same output. Over the years, I'd expect caps to start to fail and maybe other components as well. This could cause the difference in output, right? If that's the case, is there a cap to replace to get the output back to "normal"?
