Hi, everybody I just have a quick question about transformers and mame(Yes, I know everybody here hates Mame, but thats why it's my friends machine). Would it matter if your computer(inside of it's case) is right beside the transformer? Would it Cause any problems with the computer?

Thanks

The case should act as an electromagnetic field and provide shielding.
That being said, if I had the option of putting either right next to the x-former or not... I would choose not to.

Shouldn't cause any problems. I have a couple dozen Drift conversions
out on the road and the computer is mounted right next to the transformer.
Never had a problem.

Don't know why someone would hate Mame. I love it, I can play all my favorite
old games without spending a fortune and not cluttering up my garage.

Thanks for the answers everybody! I have told him to keep his computer out of the cabinet just in case. Dont worry I would never destroy an original machine. I have mame in a custom cabinet that i built. But as for my friend he used a mk2 as a mame machine!!! that i've been bugging him to sell it to me.

He doesn't need to move the computer out of the cabinet. Just build a shelf or a stand and move the computer away from the transformer. Also make sure there is plenty of ventilation inside the cabinet so the computer doesn't cook itself.

it does not matter

Magnetic fields follow the same basic laws as electrical current in they always pick the pathetic of least resistance. The magnetic reluctance, which is similar to resistance in terms of current flow, of air is higher than that of the steel used in the core of the transformer and computer case. So of the computer case is against the transformer the field will travel through it, but since the field always travels from one pole to another, you will never have the field penetrate into the computer unless it is so large It creates magnetic saturation of both the transformer core and the case. So the short of it is that it doesn't matter because the game transformer doesn't put out a very strong magnetic field.
