What version of the frogger pcb is most common? I have a couple of the small double board sets and about 5 of the large ones that look like galaxian hardware.
Any reason why one would be better than the other?

There are actually 3, I believe.

There are 2 double board versions. One with 36 pin(Konami Pinout) and one with 44 pin.
Then there is the retrofit to the galaxian type board.

I imagine the 36 is the most common, but I don't know that for certain. I like that one because you can get Braze's kit for it. Not sure how different it is compared to the 44 pin.

I don't like the Galaxian one as it looks like a big hack.

My machine actually has a braze kit in it. I thought the big board was actually a hack to a galaxian but it has Sega screened right on the board.

It was a licensed 'hack' I believe. I don't know the exact history of it, but the frogger extension was made by SEGA. Not many people are looking for that type of board. I imagine because of the HS kit and that it takes AC. Although, not many looking for a frogger in general.

IIRC.....and I may be wrong.....it was a hack to Galaxian hardware....factory done (stupidly)by Sega. Sega got busted for it....thus the change to the 36-pin design.

I've got a couple 44-pin boards......I've got a slew of 36-pin boards. I've been inside a ton of Froggers over the years.....only ever ran into one 44-pin board.

As far as designs I've personally seen...
Sega 44-pin board
Sega 36-pin board
Konami 36-pin board

Pretty sure the 36-pin "double-stacked" pcb is the original. I've had quite a few over the years.

Good Info.

I didn't mention the Sega 36-pin and the Konami 36-pin before, but they are basically the same, correct?

For all intent and purposes, yes, they're the same. The layout of the mainboard is slightly different...as is the sound board. The Konami sound board is substantially larger than it's Sega counterpart.
