Quick disconnect terminal size and type. When and where should you use what?

I need a crap load of crimps for a bunch of old games i am fixing up. I have some cheap arse stuff form h/f but refuse to use that crap.

Where is the best place to buy good quality QD's and such? I have looked a bobs page and picture guide. http://www.therealbobroberts.net/qd-id.html

Do you guys really use all them different types on your machines? Do you always use fully insulated?

ect ect...

Any one have part #'s for digikey

I don't see any on mouser but I know they are there. Where do you buy yours from? Can I beat bobs price on these some where?

These two stores above look like they have cheap made versions to me.

I also have a bunch of the cheap crimping tools.

Whats tool do you guys use to get a professional result when installing these?

Thanks for your time...

I don't use the fully insulated, except for running AC power. For stuff like joysticks/buttons etc the partially insulated ones work fine. As far as "cheap stuff from harbor freight" is concerned, I got one of these for $3.77 in store:

and it's great if you want .250 QDs and a bunch of eyelet terminals. I got it that cheap because it was $3.77 on the website, looks like they bumped it up to match the instore price. Still, even at $9.99 it's not a bad price, it's just a bit heavy on the eyelets and a bit light on the QDs for arcade use. You get the reusable organizer out of the deal too which could sell for a couple bucks on its own.

Most Cherry swithces I've seen want .187 QDs anyway, I'm starting to run low on those and will need to pick some up.

Anyway, I just buy the 'normal QDs' like shown in that kit, and if I care about them being fully insulated (running 110 AC or whatnot) I insulate it myself with a bit of heat shrink tubing.

I have noticed a difference in the hf ones and better ones. I also use butt splices like they're going out of style (in the pic). I use one of these for crimping, and it works great. I mostly use the half insulated quick disconnects since I only really use them on microswitches, and don't have any loose wires in my control panels. If I use both male and female quick disconnects to make a connection, i will use the fully insulated female ones. Otherwise, it is unnecessary.

Edit: you can buy better qd's than you will get at hf at home depot in packs of 50 or 100. Be sure to get both blues and reds (for smaller gauge wires).

Those posts really helped. I will give home depot a shot tonight for them. Lowes does not have jack.
