quick cap kit question for Space Invaders power supply...my first attempt...

I'm so confused. I got Bob Roberts cap kit for my linear 90400 space invaders power supply. I matched up the caps except for the two big ones. The new black caps only have the leads on one end but the original blue caps have a lead on either end...how the hell do I solder the new caps on?

I am assuming this is a dumb question but I'm lost. Thanks in advance

Basically, each cap will have a positive and a negative lead. If the original cap has one out of each end, that's called Axial, if it's got them both out of the same end, that's called a Radial cap.

They're the same exact electronic part, just a different package. So they'll work equally well; the only problem you'll have is that sometimes if you have the wrong package capacitor, you'll run the risk of shorting something out; for example if you mount a radial cap where an axial was supposed to be, sometimes you'll see that the 'positive' lead or something touches a trace that once ran under the other cap, etc.

So just be careful and make sure nothing's shorting out against something it shouldn't.

Like Clever said though, Bob mentions this on his page, so in this case it's not a big issue.

yes, just solder wire onto each of the connections, then run the relevant wire to the relevant posistion on the board and solder.i think i used hot glue to hold the cap in place.
