Questions on testing the Nintendo PP-7b power supply

I'm missing the 16volts for the sound on my PS and I'm waiting on the caps to come in so I can replace them.. All other voltages are fine.

It seems the troubleshooting chart for this PS doesn't have the 16v listed.

What I want to know is can I test the one board by itself for the 16v at the plug, or does both boards have to be connected together?

Also with the ps out of the game will I need to run a ground wire from the ps case to the game before I test it??

Thanks
Chas

I don't think that supply outputs 16 volts. It only does 5VDC, 12VDC, 24VDC and -5VDC. What game do you have that needs 16 volts?

On another post I got the pinouts and it shows that the sound plug should have 16v on two of the pins. My game has no sound and I thought this was the reason why.

Here is the pinouts I found for the sound plug at the PS

Pin 1 brown +16v
2 red +16v
3 orange ground
4 Yellow ground
5 green +12v
6 blue +5v
7 purple -5v

All voltages were spot on except for pins 1 & 2.

It looks like you are testing the 7P sou connector.
That is only needed for the sound board on a 4 board set. Is yours a 4 board or 2 board set?

I got the game running, and I can barely hear some sounds

The previous owner installed on of the prom chips backwards. To make a long story short the game is now working.

I can barely hear some sounds coming out of the speaker.. I have the 4 board game and I don't have the 16v coming out of the sound plug on the PS. Does the 16v just act as an amp to boost the sounds? I hope to have some capicitors coming in so I can rebuild the PS..

Have you adjusted the volume on the monitor? There's also a mix pot on the board itself that adjusts the analog vs. digital mix. If your jump/stomp/walk are good but the music is low it's probably that pot.

Yes adjusting the monitor pot and the one one the soundboard does nothing.

Game starting locking up again too. :(

Like I said I don't have the 16v coming out of the PS so the sounds won't work. I'm not hearing every sound coming out of the speaker, just certain ones.
