I just picked up a Midway TV Basketball, minus the logic board. I haven't seen one for sale, but I would really like to play this game. I found a copy of the schematics and I don't see any proms, just a bunch of 74 series TTL chips (and some 555s), transistors, diodes, capacitors, resistors, and a crystal.

So, I'm wondering if I could I do a breadboard reproduction. Has anyone here tried something like this before? Does anyone have close-up photos of this board? That would help me a lot in planning the layout.

I've also looked over old Midway flyers, and it looks to be the same cabinet/controls as Winner IV and Leader. Would it be possible to wire up one of these? Or maybe there's some other pong clones out there that use the same 4-player rotary controls?

(If anyone has a logic board for sale, please contact me.)

There are a lot of early games that use quad paddles. I have a working Williams Pro Tennis from the same era that uses the quad paddles. Vaps shows 6 owners of the game with two of them for sale, so the machines and circuit boards must be out there somewhere.

You could possibly have a little trouble in wiring up a different game in the video area. I am not sure if all those 1973-1974 games that used modified TV sets all did the video the same way.

You could possibly wire up one of the old 4 player pong consoles pretty easily. That could be a good solution until a real board pops up.

Building the board seems totally doable. A lot of the older early games like this were simple logic without any "programmed" chips. I say go for it.

Yep, I'm looking over the schematics now for possibly recreating the logic board - maybe I could use a CPLD to eliminate a lot of the work. Funny thing, though, I think it would be so much less difficult if I had a board in hand to examine. I'm hoping someone will turn one up, even if it's completely dead. Even some high-res photos would be great. Anybody?

I didn't know there were 4-player pong consoles, that's a good idea! I'm hoping to do as little rewiring of the cab as possible, though, so I'll hold off on that as a later option.
