Questions about Jawhn's 'new' Aliens game

Damn... that is gonna need a lot of love to get it back to an "Aliens".
If you don't like the game, just restore the cab and part out the stuff. If the marquee is nice I would take it.
I really enjoy my Aliens and for $50, that was a good buy.

Would an ISO from a Joust cab work? I forgot I had an extra power supply for one sitting around...

I wouldn't even fart around with one of those.... just keep it to a simple 4 wire 1:1 ISO like on Bob's site for $12.00 and you'll be fine.

If your ISO is smoking it is already internally shorted, just change it and THEN move on to see if the monitor does anything. (check the chassis fuse on it first)
Looks like you have a K7000 which is an easy fixer if it does need anything.... besides the serious cleaning it needs.

Yes, just make sure you hook it up right :)

Cool. Is it more important to make sure the same colored wires go to the same colors, or just follow Bob Robert's tutorials? Or are all ISOs wired pretty much the same?

Well, I would gladly trade the Aliens PCB and marquee for another cool JAMMA PCB and marquee, but I need to make sure the Aliens PCB works first... I'd like to get either a Rastan or a Shinobi or a Rolling Thunder... I think those are all JAMMA, I need to find a site that shows what games are available for JAMMA, I think...

I just figured the Joust one was free, and already in my possession... You think I should leave the Williams transformer alone? Are they different?

Monitor chassis fuse was fine. Does need a good cleaning. It is a K7000.

Hey Jawhn,
What kind of shape is the Marquee in??
You would not want to sell it by itself would you?

Not yet... Although if/when I get this beast working, I will probably switch Aliens to another JAMMA game. At that point I will entertain parting the marquee and PCB, and will keep you in mind. But it won't happen very soon, now that I just picked up a Defender. Ugh. Too many projects.

Ok, update. Got my ISO xformer from Bob on Saturday (And some moon pies, woohoo!) and was contemplating soldering it up tonight...

Here's the dumb question:

Is it safe to assume I can wire it up exactly like the other one was, if their bases face the exact same way? Currently, top left is Green, top right is Red, bottom left is White, (3 wires) and bottom right is Black. But the 2 xformers look ever-so-slightly different (How wide apart the pins are from each other) and of course, no colored wires on the new one...

Is my assumption correct? Am I wording it clear enough? If it gets hooked up wrong, what's the worst case scenario?

Thanks in advance. ;)

Is the new one labeled?

Not sure. It has molded numbers in the plastic by the pins... Top left is 7, top right is 9, bottom left is 5, bottom right is 1. And a sticker on the side that says

SECONDARY
P: 0010
0540
PRIMARY

Is that what you mean?

Oh, and I have all the stuff now, too. The Mouser stuff and all the Bob Roberts stuff.

Post a pic. We can finish working on your Defender tomorrow night. I have my WMS Test harness up and running now.

Of the Bob Roberts one, I assume?

Been waiting for my rechargeable AAs to charge up... I'll give it a shot right now.

Here 'go.

Based on this page:

http://www.therealbobroberts.net/acwiring.html

The bottom two are the input, and the top two are the output.

Scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll see how Bob has it wired up.

Hmmm... So the Red/Green/White/Black mean nothing? Argh. Well, what's the worst thing that could happen if I wired it wrong? Monitor blows up? Fire? Death/destruction?

I guess I'll have to trace the wires. I was so hoping for a "Oh, yeah, just wire it up like the previous one was mounted" answer... :D

Thanks Brien. So... 7:00pm Wednesday? Or what time works best for you? I can't get there before 6:00.

Yes, wire it up like the existing one.

7pm works fine.

Ok, update. I wired up the new ISO transformer. Correctly. Then I doublechecked the monitor board, and saw that there was a missing fuse. So I went down to the hardware store and grabbed a 125AC 1.5A Fast-Blow fuse. (They didn't have a Slow-Blow with that rating :( )

Crossed fingers, powered up.

No smoke, no crackling, game sounds, coins up and plays blind. But still no monitor. No neck glow. Unplugged, checked fuses, all good, unhooked and rehooked connectors, turned brightness up, nothing.

So that's where it sits now. Playing blind just fine. What do now? Is there a FAQ I should be reading somewhere? I'm probably asking the questions that everyone always asks, but this thread is kind of a blog/diary, so...

Thanks in advance for any leads to info to do more testing on the monitor...

You sure there is no neck glow? Did you turn out the lights and look? Sometimes depending on the monitor, you really can't see it with the lights on.

First place to start would be with a flowchart for your particular monitor chassis. Make a post in the repair section...you know there's always someone here that can help.
