I am trying to find the answer to this question but my search fu (and that's FU, not F.U. LOL) is not working very well- if I put a Defender switching supply from ArcadeShop in my Defender CT, do I still need the original PS to power the lights on the cocktail game's control panels? Or will the switcher do this too? From what I can see, all the switcher will run is the power going to the main PCB.

Thanks!

The transformer powers the external lights. This line is fused through the power supply board. You'll have to jury-rig this connection.....plus you might lose control functions, and you'll have to jumper in a ground connection.

Did you pull the control panel apart and check the actual light sockets? They are notorious for developing issues. Liquid gets spilled and runs into (and behind) the conrtol panel causing the light sockets to rust, and the insulator breaks down causing a minor short.

Actually all of the light sockets looked pretty darn clean. I was actually surprised when I lifted up the CP's.

I'm betting the AS PS does not have the wiring set up to cover this but it is possible to run those lights off the switcher. You may need to add some custom wiring though.

What he said. I am sure the switcher mod is just set up for an UR. The PS board is different on a cocktail to run the extra lights so some mods are in your future to run those lights.

Do they still feel nice and "tight".....no spinning of the lugs?

I've also had a few (rare) cases where the actual bulb was causing the short. At this point, I'd start the process of elimination. The fuse is only for the external lights....player 1 control panel lights, player 2 control panel lights, coin door lights. Time to start disconnecting stuff until you find which part of the circuit is causing the extra draw. Unplug the coin door harness and player 2's harness fire it up and see if it still blows. I guess there's always the slight possibility it's the transformer.

Thank you very much I will give that a go! When I got the game, all of the bulbs under the CP's were still in there but all were burnt black so I'm guessing a surge or something went through. 2 of the 3 coin lights were working. I'll pull all of the bulbs and then go slow.
