From what I understand, Black Knight came out in 1980. Black Knight 2000 came out in 1989. Is one a sequel of the other? Or is the new one more like a version 2.0? Or is one an EM and the other an SS?

I'm asking because I really liked the Black Knight 2000 game I saw being played over the weekend, and I remember hearing someone say they liked the "first" one better. What is the diff?

It's an updated remake, kind of like The Getaway is an updated remake to High Speed or Jackbot is to Pinbot.

The original Black Knight didn't have an alphanumeric display.
The original High Speed didn't have DMD.
Pinbot didn't have DMD.

Their follow-up remakes integrated the newest tech of the time and made some tweaks to rules and such.

That person most likely has a sentimental attachment to the first game. Either that or they are crazy.

There should be plenty of game play videos on youtube of both games. They're similar in layout but definitely different games.

Do they both have the same sound effects? (I know the one from 89 would probably be more advanced)

I'm not sure if 2K has throwback sounds but it would be minimal and just for effect. I haven't played it a lot but to me BK2K has about the best sound package ever. The music is pure awesome.

Check it out on youtube.

I'd definitely call it a sequel vs. a remake. It's very different than the original.

The original BK pretty much just has Joust sound FX. BK2K is all 80's synth-rock w/ a choir! Totally different.

TONS of pinheads tell me they like the original better. I dunno, doesn't work that way for me. Maybe if you turned the sound off on both of them....but I LOVE music/sound in pinball. The original BK is so...SILENT. That kills it for me.

Yeah, BK2K's audio package is amazing. I don't like the singing much, but the music is fantastic. There's a Black Knight still on location nearby and I think it's pretty fun, but I find it nowhere near as enjoyable as Black Knight 2000.

"you can do it, you can do it!"

BK2000 is a pretty fast playing game.. I just dont care too much for the small lower playfield.. my reflexes arent always quick enough.

That's why I like it..it's really taught me to react fast, catch and aim better.

BK2K for me and I own one. BK just didn't do it for me - I like Firepower better from that system 3-7 era. But everyone has different tastes. That's good because we'd all be trying to buy the same games and prices would be outrageous. You really need to play both before you buy.

Black Knight's sound just kills the game for me. I never saw BK2K until someone posted that youtube video yesterday. That game looks really dag gone cool! I'd like to play one.

A lot of generally older people like the original BK better because it was the original or because that is the one they grew up playing. That said, I find BK2000 a much better game! BK2K is also more my generation. The original from 1980 was when pins had just went solid state, the very first ramp games and multiple flippers. Groundbreaking, at the time.

They are similar in playfield layout and theme. BK2K is the followup to the original BK. Somewhat common thing with videogames and pinball machines.

It freakin' rocks, it's one of the best System 11's, and that means a lot coming from a Sys 11 fan like me. My buddy Rich in Clarksburg has one. I'm sure we could set up a game day up there some time. Maybe I could talk him in to hosting a game night?

BK2K really stands out from the other games of its generation. Most were cartoony and lighthearted (Diner, Taxi, Whirlwind, Bat Cats, etc) ...not that there's anything wrong w/ that, I love funny games....but BK2K w/ it's stark stylized look, bold color, and fast rockin' music...it's just INTENSE on every level: Look, feel, sound...hits you over the head in a way those other games don't.

Sorry to revive and old thread...I have both of these. BK is very much a strategy shot game, and it takes a lot of rhythm to enjoy. I hated it at first. I bought it non working for cheap because a friend told me it rocked, and then I hated him until about the 50th time I played it, and then it clicked. Once you get it going, the game is fast fun, and HARD.

BK2K is like Tekken(and I like Tekken a lot) There are a lot of thrills for the button masher to just have fun, the sound is great, and you don't have to know anything about how to play pinball to have a good time. However if you know what you doing, it's a whole new world, and even more fun :) The original required a knowledge of how to play and a lot of practice and skill to enjoy, the new allowed for this but also was just a great fun first time you put a quarter in, you get a great time game.
