Hey folks. Spy hunter cockpit will be here tomorrow!

Question please. I have the front of the machine going up against a wall -so no access to boards (i am guessing the boards are back there).

If i want to change time / difficulty / etc - is there an on screen menu for that or do i need to access dipswitches on the boards?

Thanks for the help.

Pretty sure it is dipswitches.

Thanks guys. Hopefully Aaron is right - i want to have the game in place and hopefully dont have to move it out for awhile. Will post pics when its here.

I thought it was mostly in game settings as well. I dont recall having to do dip switches for coin setup and such.

You know doing some searches on Google too now that i have the time. I see the dipswitches only allow for timer and demo sounds.

I would have expected difficulty settings? Guess not. Was hoping to jump back and fourth to see the difference (and yes, i would put it back to normal!).

There isn't a 'difficulty' setting exactly.

IIRC you can adjust how long the initial timer runs and how often you get new cars.

And the other posters were largely correct -- many options can be set via the onscreen menus but coins, demo sounds, etc are settable via dip.

Yes. Dont doubt someone with that avatar on this question.

Haha -- after the last couple of days at work I barely even remember who I am, let alone settings that I've not really messed with.

I made sure mine were set at factory defaults years ago and moved on. :)

A little off topic but if you really like Spy Hunter there is a nice episode of the TopCast pinball podcast with an hour long interview of George Gomez. Although he is noted for his great pinball designs like LOTR, he deisgned arcade games. He designed the Spy Hunter arcade game but not the pinball. I thought his story and ideas about the game were really interesting. Lots of interesting interviews with Gomez also in the Documentary "Tilt: The Battle to Save Pinball"

Well the game is here!

Huge. A beast. I cant believe how big that thing is.

But, nothing beats the sit down experience - quite amazing. Better than i remembered as a kid. Those speakers are pointed right at my head.

I will post pics this weekend. I see there are a few things that need attention, like a sticky button, colors off, etc. Nothing major. Need to go to work now - until later!

I'm envious -- I've never seen or played in a cockpit version before.

The Time Out I frequented back in The Day had a cockpit Spy Hunter. It wasn't until 5 or 10 years ago that I ever knew that uprights existed. Same story with Turbo.

By the time Out Run was released though, Time Out had gotten cheap... no cockput version of it :/

Demogo - if you are ever here in NY you are welcome to stop over to check it out. I hope to post pics soon. I just need to get it back together (took it completely apart - do this with every game).

The settings page is pretty extensive - no need to go to dipswitches. Nothing for difficulty, as pointed out here.

There's a local place that has one that isn't functional. At one point I offered to help them get it running but didn't hear back from them. I think I'll call them again tomorrow.

Thanks for the kind offer. :)

difficulty -
test mode - machine setup - difficulty level 1-5 5 is hardest, 3 is default. Right under the coin options.
The only thing set by dip switches on the pcb is sound in attract mode.

CD JUmp - you beat me to it! I was just messing around in the menus and see that there is a difficulty setting. The default setting is perfect though.

Damn -- I could have sworn this wasn't there.

I've played on games that don't give you cars as early or as often as the default; I'm pretty sure I've played on games with different countdown timers at the beginning. I'm speculating that's what the difficulty setting must control?
