so, i am waiting on a new cpo for my pac, and wondering what the best way to strip/clean the painted areas of the panel to give it a new finish. normally, on panels where the cpo completely covers it i hit it with a scraper and a wire brush, but i want to make sure i have a nice smooth finish to paint on, so it comes out looking good.

any suggestions?

I've always DIY, but I've come to think dropping that off somewhere to be blasted and black powdercoated would be worth the money vs the time you'd spend. I hope to try that soon myself.

I just used a fine (not course) wire brush attachment on my drill to remove the paint/rust, followed by some sandpaper by hand to smooth it off. I put on 3 coats of Tremclad/Rustoleum semi-gloss spray paint from a rattle can and I think it looks nice.

You could also try a chemical paint stripper to get rid of the paint, then you wouldn't need to worry about scratches from a wire brush.

Zinsser sells a product called 'STRIPFAST.'

Stuff is amazing. Comes in a gallon steel jug, and less than 1/4 of the jug did my whole Ms Pac cab in like minutes, literally.

nitromorse paint stripper, scraper it off, whirly bit brush on drill, primer then rustoleum satin black.
;)

cool. well, waiting on the cpo to come to start this little project, but i think i'll strip it followed by the drill brush and some fine sandpaper after that...
