Question on Playchoice Topper Repros??

Just playing devil's advocate here, but does anyone seriously collect Playchoice toppers because of their value? As if they were an investment they could cash in later? I have a TMNT topper, I bought it cause it looks cool on top of my cabinet. Not so I can gleefully think of all the money I'm going to get from selling it in 10 years.

When you get to the rarer toppers, it doesnt become 20-30 bucks anymore

BTW a very cool mario video on youtube today....

Sure, but my point still stands. I don't buy arcade stuff cause I think it's a good investment, I buy it because I like to play games.

You can play a topper??????

I buy them because they look cool on top of my game....

I was just stating a opinion....Repo all you want, just let me know if you do...all mine will be sold on ebay before that

And guys cant tell me that you buy stuff, not because of price......This is klov, where all the cheapest guys on the planet.

Ghostnuke i have 3-4 mike tyson punch out toppers....300$ a peice..U need my paypal address???

We all try to buy under market value

I think that if you have been collecting these for many many years, you would have a different opinion

All that im saying, for the guys that collect the toppers that 100$ RC PROAM topper if repoed will be worth 30$ If you guys dont care, i dont care.....

A local buddy has a nice collection of these toppers. At least 40+ that he has been collecting for years. I know there are a few that he put down a decent chunk of change for. I honestly couldn't speak on his behalf regarding his thoughts on reproducing these or whether he'd even want repro's of the toppers he doesn't have yet. I think it's a great idea for people who just want something but I know collectors would probably see things differently. It's just a matter of who you want to please, I guess. If it were up to me I'd be all for seeing these reproduced. I no longer have my PC-10 but when I did I only bought the toppers I could get at a decent price ($10ish each max) just so I could display them. I would have been thrilled to have picked up a few more select toppers , repro or not, at a good price.

Repo all you want, just let me know if you do...all mine will be sold on ebay before that.

I would be doing the same thing if I still had any. Sell them at a high price then re-buy repro's when they're available.

I understand both sides of the issue. While I have only purchased these because they look cool on my machine, it would be a bummer to see the 16 toppers that I have spent a decent amount of money on substantially decrease in value because of reproductions. However, I think that the people that collect these could easily tell the difference between the originals and reproductions.
I think there is an easy way to appease both sides if we do decide to collaborate on some repros; in small print, on the lower left hand corner of each sticker, type "reproduction".

Repro these, and if it helps put a shadowed repro in the corner, but just like any other collectible for display, the repro serves as the illusion of real, and for those of us putting them in our dark arcades, its a no brainer, print these things so all of us that dont want to collect, can still keep alive the look of these machines the way nintendo had intended....

That was my point- so since MT Punch-Out is my favorite game, I need to pay $300 for a topper or not have one at all? I want my PC-10 to look cool, not to tell my kids that they can't touch it in fear they might damage my MT topper.

MTP is a 25-30$ topper....i was just making a point

I agree. Although a MTPO topper is not $300, there are ones that can get quite expensive. Some of the toppers go for as much as $100 and more, and some are downright impossible to find. I think it is reasonable to provide a nice reproduction of the toppers without interfering with the collectors market on the originals. In fact, by making some attainable and affordable reproductions, it may actually introduce more people to the product and create a larger demand for the originals.
I think that it would be selfish and unreasonable to say that people should not create reproductions because it will decrease the value of the originals. There are people out there who want to add the "cool" factor to their machines without having to constantly search, and then pay a premium, for the toppers. These people want to put the toppers on their played machines, not leave them in a box and worry about maintaining their condition and potentially damaging the topper that they just spent a ton on. This market is independent from the collector market, and why shouldn't that demand be met with supply?
Cheers to OTT for initiating this project and offering to look into making it happen. I am all for it and will gladly help in any way possible.

** It should be about the fun and games, nothing more **

P.S. Even if this does happen, I will still pay $100 for an original Mario Open Golf topper. And Donny, please give me first dibs before you go throwing stuff up on eBay, you know I will pay well :)

I know!!!!!

Ok i understand your guys points....The point of making them alittle different then the origanals is well taken.

Whos going to finance it???? your going to have 10 different toppers, and 10 a sheet..=100. Plus 80-100 for each art scan to match colors

Plus the 100 medal brackets.

The project could get costley....The more medal brackets you get made the better the price.

Just my 2 cents

easy solution to this guys, stamp repro on the mounting sections (1.5" piece) that way its not noticable when installed

I think that reproducing toppers would lower the value of the toppers that are already unboxed and applied. However, I think, it would raise the value of original toppers in box (NOS PC games) and unapplied toppers (sticker and metal backing).

I think the reproduction of these toppers is a good idea, because I like the idea of lower prices. I buy toppers to display on top of my playchioces'. However, I buy them as collector items too (evidence below:)), so I wouldn't mind paying the higher prices for the real NOS and unapplied toppers.

Also, I don't like the idea of adding the "repo" shadow on the sticker. My repo PC side art dosen't have a "repo" shadow on it. If you have to put a "repo" shadow on it, then put it on the back of the metal base (engrave it or something).

Also, could you make toppers for the games that didn't originally have toppers (ex: duck hunt, wild gunman, etc...), becasue I would like have toppers for those games too (if the design looked good/original).

I hope this all makes sense...lol

Evidence that I am a fan of NOS collectors items:

Since theres so many games that did not have toppers with the game I think those should be produced and leave the originals alone. Leave one market alone and create a new market.

Disagree... Defeats the purpose. Again, the collector market is largely separate from the market in which people just want to decorate their machine. Plus, you can't really say that there is a market with no supply. I have been looking for that Mario Open Golf topper for well over a year. Needless to say I have come up empty handed, and certainly not for lack of trying or willingness to spend the $$. I have only seen one, and I am sick of looking.... I wanna make one.

I would very much love to have a Yo Noid! Topper. Why?

Not because I am collecting the Toppers, but...my PC-10 (which is being restored) sits in the back of a Domino's Pizza...and well it just makes good sense for me to have one then! :)

I have been looking for Yo Noid! Toppers for a while now and have yet to see one. If I can't find one hell I'd like someone to make me one!
