I've searched only to find original Nintendo Playchoice Toppers- they seem to be few and far between... and expensive.

Has anyone tried to reproduce these things? I'd love to discuss it with one of you experienced fabricators to see if it can be done reasonably priced. I can take care of the art part, but the metal piece- I wouldn't know where to begin.

Is there any interest in these?

Yes. I have a NOS bracket I could lend to help in the fab process. I also have a NOS TMNT marquee I could lend to help with the print material selection.

I have about 16 different ones and would gladly provide some scans. I would also like a Mario Open Golf repro if this gets going.

Nice! Yeah, I could work with some of the art on Pete's site, but most of it isn't worth the time and effort to clean up. New scans would be ideal.

Can one of you guys confirm the size? I found 8 x 4 inches with a 1.75 inch base. How thick is the aluminum?

Ok... 7 3/8" wide, 3 3/4" high, the base extends 1 1/2" and the metal is approx. 1/16" thick.

The toppers I have:
Baseball Stars
Contra
Double Dribble
Dr. Mario
Goonies
Gradius
Kung Fu
MTPO
Nintendo World Cup
Pro Wrestling
Rad Racer
Rad Racer II
Rescue Rangers
SMB3
Tecmo Bowl
Track & Field

I will begin making some high quality scans of these. I think this is a great idea and there will be a lot of interest!

Just awesome man!! Thanks!! I'll get back to you when I have more info...

The only concern i have with this project is that...It will kill the market on these.

I thought of doing this when i reproed the playchoice artwork. I decided against it, because i did want to upset the collectors of the toppers. Depending how many you guys decide to repo, the real ones will be worth half of there current value.

Say you sell the sticker of Mario 3 topper for 15$ Would you rather buy a origanal one for 30-35 or buy a new repo for 15??

IMO This is not the best idea.

Interesting view- let's continue on this before we go through with it.

So what's the difference between repro toppers or repro anything else? There are plenty of people that will still want NOS stuff and will not care about these at all, just like many other arcade parts. I would also make sure to include in the art (in an inconspicuous location) that these are repros.

You can repo anything....just like 10 years ago when pacman/ mrs pacman were going for 1000$ a pop all day. Now you can find totally resto mrs pacs for 500$.

Know what killed it???? The 48-1

Why have 48 classic arcade machines in your basement, when you can buy the board for 75 bucks???

Like at Pinball Machines....Cant really reproduce them....They just keep going up in value. 3 years ago you could get a Whitewater for 1200$....Good luck finding a nice one for less then 2000$

Anytime you repo something it goes down in value.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but does anyone seriously collect Playchoice toppers because of their value? As if they were an investment they could cash in later? I have a TMNT topper, I bought it cause it looks cool on top of my cabinet. Not so I can gleefully think of all the money I'm going to get from selling it in 10 years.

I agree with most of what you're saying. I think the market and economy has more to do with the prices of arcade games than the multiboards.

I don't think we can compare a Pac-Man machine to a sign topper though. I think comparing cosmetic things like side art and cpo's makes more sense. There's a market for video games, multiboards or otherwise. I don't see a big market for Playchoice toppers.

I dont collect for value....i collect what i enjoy. Go on nintendo age...I know guys that will pay 200$ bucks for a volleyball topper

As for the pac comparison.....its a general rule....And yes the 48-1, 60-1, 111-1, 5847748-1....lol
Has hurt the value of arcades....

Again i WAS thinking of doing this about a year ago...I have 15-20 NOS toppers, i just decided against doing it
