So I have a couple bad POTs on my 4900. When I removed the POT (vertical hold 301) I 'though' it said 85k on the back of the POT.

Looking at the manual and schematics it calls for a '5k OMH -B- semi-fixed'

Is there a chance it said 'B'5k and not 85k? The pot is destroyed and gone now

If so can I assume the 'b' is the type of POT? The picture of 'B' POTs look nothing like the old one. Of course that wouldn't surprise me

Also same question on the Horizontal Hold (V351) listed as '2k OHM -B- semi-fixed'

Thanks!

A "B" pot is a linear pot, meaning that the change in resistance is constant throughout the whole range of the pot. With an "A" or logarithmic pot (normally used for audio applications) this is not the case. This is because if you used a linear pot as, for example, a volume control on an amplifier, the increase in volume would not be consistent throughout the range of the pot. This diagram explains it better than I could.

Makes sense. Thanks for the info.

I had an order going in with BR so I took a chance at a buck a piece. They probably aren't gonna work.

Will gram the right ones the next time
