looking at a fish tales...really like the game, but the playfield on this one is really beat up.

how hard is it to find a replacement playfield? i know they made a metric eff-ton of them in the original run, but does that matter?

am i going to be SOL? or out a huge chunk of change if i can find one?

just looking for a little info, fellas. not sure if it will influence my decision or not....gonna put some time in with the FT pin next week and see if it's something i can live with or not. other than the playfield, it's in great shape....then again, it's the playfield. ;)

well put it like this,

my fish tales project has stalled , everytime i see parts pop up there is a mob fighting for them!

i refuse to overpay, so ill patiently wait!

if you can live with the pf until you can find/afford one then i say go for it!

jmho

thanks, dc.

i'm gonna spend some time with it next week. i'm in no rush to have it "100% ubertastical" so if i can live with it for now, i may pull the trigger.....i really like the pin.

wonder why the parts are so expensive? they made 14,000 of them....does production run not affect parts pricing at all? i know they sent a bunch of FT's over seas, but damn.

I don't think parts are that expensive, we are lucky to even have people making any parts at all. It's not that huge of a market, so they have to charge more for specialty items. Not sure I've ever seen a Fishtales playfield for sale though....not recently at least, but it could be out there, or someone may be working on one for CPR, I'm to lazy to look. I probably wouldn't buy a pin that had major playfield wear, unless I was looking for a huge project and it was SUPER cheap.

I love my Fishtales, it's my favorite pin out of the 9 or 10 I've owned so far. It's got almost the perfect balance of being challenging, but not brutally challenging like my Bram Stoker's Dracula. It has great artwork, some fun modes, the crisscross ramps in the middle. The topper is kind of cool, and you know your having a good game when the fish is flapping like crazy ( I unhooked mine though, kind of loud for home use haha)

well, the one i'm looking at is not SUPER cheap, but it's affordable enough to where if i bought it & put up to another $800 or so into a new playfield, i'd still be coming out ahead. ;)

and that's kinda where i'm at...i love the game, it's in my range, and i REALLY want a new bally/williams pin. :)

like i said...i'm gonna give it a bit more time before i pull the trigger.

again, thanks for the input guys.

tom,

the reel motor is not cheap, replacing pf would be expensive as i havent seen that for sale but they all seem to have wear in the stringer, the wpc parts are expensive too, and the few times ive seen fish tales cpu,pd board, sound card etc... come up on feepay they were being fought over to the end!

i mean 187 for an untested wpc 89? out of a ft

hmmm.....sounds like expensive parts. i know the one i'm looking at is working 100%, it's just the playfield i'm worried about.

hell, i don't have the money right now to put a new playfield in anyway, so i guess it's just gonna come down to playability "as is."

just worked on a FISH TALES for a customer. great fun that pin is.
would love to own one and think i could play that thing till i died. Ha.
