Has anyone come up with a good way to clean old dingy buttons?

It would probably entail taking a tiny bit of the button surface off and one would have to buff it to get the smooth texture back, but I assume that there is a way to do this.

Any ides would be appreciated.

Thanks.

for your whites: http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/Retr0Bright+Gel

for others: Hot water, dawn dish soap or simple green or both (take em apart remove the spring, let em soak for a good while) toothbrush scrubbing in the end.

^ the method I use. I did this on every game I ever bought lol. I'm winding down adding to the collection though. it might not happen for awhile, as "those" kinds of games are our shittiest earners in our arcade, might be strictly driving or redemption from now on :(

i got bored one night and decided to clean 10 joysticks and a few buttons, can you tell? :D

I used to try to clean the buttons, but since they only cost a dollar or so, it really isn't worth the effort. When I get a new game in, I just order a set of buttons for it, and toss the old ones in a box. I haven't figured out what to do with the box of old ones though. :)

Depending on what all you have (micro, leaf, odd colors), I'd offer the lot of them up on here. I love buying old buttons! It gives my kids something to do while I'm messing around in my garage with my games. I bought a box of about 40 from a member on here and my kids loved scubbing them clean. I'm always looking for a certain button color that I seem to find in that box!

Yes, the whole idea of entertaining the cleaning of buttons is because I need certain unconventional colors. Colors like the yellow and light blue for Joust and the correct shades of red and green in a StarGate set. As well as black and blue translucents.

Thanks.

Yes I know. I assume your saying that I'm not going to do as well cleaning the buttons I have than just getting new ones. :D

I myself got bored with cleaning buttons and agree they're cheap enough where it's easiest just to replace them. but there are some buttons worth refurbing.
