I just picked up an old slot machine but the seller didn't have the keys. It appears to be a 1940s Mills machine. What is the best, least damaging way, to open the machine without the keys?

IF ITS a barrel type lock you need to drill where ever you see a little pin there probley gold in color.my buddy thats a lock smith thought me how to do this

Before you try to drill it. Is it a original lock? Those original mills locks have gotten very valuable. They average $70-$125 on ebay.

Can you see the screws for the lock plate through the reel glass or is the security clip still over the plate?

The easiest way is if you can see the 2 screws. Break the reel glass (just plain glass. easy to replace) and use a long screwdriver to remove the lock.

If you need any Mills parts I have a ton of them.

Barrel Locks

How many keys # vwere made for the old slots?

A 40's Mills IS NOT a barrel lock. They are a center cut key. They are hard to get into. if you try to pry it open you will more than likely crack the bonnet or bend the back door. If you drill it it still may not open and you ruined a $75-$100 lock. Here are some pictures of what you are dealing with.

Slot lock

Thanks, I learn something new everyday.
I have not tried to open this type of lock yet. Guilty of working on a IGT with a barrel lock at the time of my first post. I have also not tried to open the Sega locks with the divets on the side of the keys.
