question: how many people would buy a repro berzerk bat stick

The wicos and happs that would work have narrow diameter shafts, I think 3/8". The original bat uses a coarse threaded rod about 5/8" thick. Putting the original size bat on a narrow shaft that is half the length creates potential problems.

The threads on that drawing look to have a very steep pitch... and they look double-leaded as well...

I thought I read the original was supposedly strong enough to hang from? Surely it could be done with the repro just being a large plastic stick, with the disclaimer that it 'can' be bent. In HUO situation, it probably would be non-issue.

I have to imagine given the proper grade of hardened steel a shaft could be
created that could stand up to abuse given the weight of the bat stick
and forces (big bucks though).. however where I would be concerned are the
resulting forces on the CP and the plastic housing of a joystick like the perfect
360 when it hits the limits of the travel. The bat stick is huge and would act like
a see saw.. a skinny person sitting far away from the fulcrum
of a see saw can easily lift the weight of a fat person sitting close to the fulcrum...
the end result is a multiplication of force.

Its actually 1/2" 13 thread....

This is the only way to go. I love my HAPP Perfect 360. It's an opto stick, which is what the original was, but this one actually works. No need to try and redo the crappy design of the original. Fab a bat stick to replace the generic plastic handle in the 360 base and you're golden.

I believe this is Jeff's goal, but the cost isnt going to be $50..the 360 is way more than that. He's been working on it off & on for some time. I've seen the proto handle, looks pretty good......Im sure Jeff will share more when the time is right.

If
-the black handle portion was made of the same stuff as the ball on a RAM repro Food Fight stick, for example, and polished the same.
-stainless shaft to fit the Perfect 360 base
-or chrome plated other metal, if that makes a stronger shaft
-shaft designed so that when installed in the 360 in control panel, it sits at same height as an original stick (looks the same externally)

..you could probably take pre-orders.

I agree..seems the stick bending would be non-issue in that the joystick base would probably give first. I don't think reproductions are intended to withstand crazy abuse and there are probably less than a handful of people who ever put a Berzerk out for play by the public, and that would be in a place like Ground Kontrol I'd think.

Yeah retrofitting the 360 base unit with a Bat-like stick is the way. Make it stronger, lighter but the same dimensions where it counts. Doesn't really seem that hard to understand, but purists can be a funny bunch.

Technically it was just a little over two years ago when this was posted :) was there ever any interest in this as I didn't pay attention to the date.
