Question for those who buy non-working pinball PCB's...

Trying to get an idea of what you'd expect to pay for untested/non-working pinball PCBs - System 3-7, System 11, WPC, older Bally or Stern stuff, etc. Some of them would be complete, and some may be missing some parts.

We have a lot here at work and my boss is thinking about having me add them to my webstore, but he doesn't want to just "give" them away for close to nothing...

New replacement boards run from $150 - $250 or so each. So a CPU board + power driver board may be $300+.

Checking into board repair I found prices of approximately $100 - $150 per board. Doing it yourself would be cheaper but depending on the issue may be difficult to impossible and be time consuming.

Based on the above if a board is complete but untested and unworking, I'm not willing to pay much. If a board is mostly working but say some light columns or rows are out or something similiar I could fix that myself with minimal time and money and would be willing to pay 50% of the cost of a new one. Issue is, how would I know the issues are minor? No seller wants to figure that out and guarantee it.

In summary, risk / reward ratio is not good on untested nonworking boards unless the price is very low and in buying several you wind up getting something to eventually work.

I have been picking up non-working boards in various states for anywhere from $5 (early Bally/Stern boards missing components) to $15 - $30 (Williams System #) to $50 - $75 for non working WPC boards.

I'd be interested in some WPC boards. Specifically CPU and Driver boards.

He was thinking maybe $25 each for most boards if they don't have battery acid damage, but I'll have to get him to sit down and figure out how much he want to get rid of, and how much he wants for each.

Sell them all to me untested in one lot

That would be easiest, and I promise not to take a year to ship!

Let me see what he's got first...

Would be interested in non acid bathed versions of:
Sys 11
WPC-S
WPC alpha numeric
Let me know how many of each you have.

What I could really use is a WPC sound board for Dracula or any WPC boards from that era. Might actually inspire me to pull out my Dracula project :)

Well, the last time I said something to my boss, he's now thinking of keeping all of the WPC and System 11 stuff because we tend to see those in the shop quite often. I'll let people know when I get more definite information, but my boss is a worse procrastinator than me, so don't sit around holding your breath...

Already in my watch list. haha!

I love the bobber, BTW. If I were closer I would definitely be a bidder.

Not an attempt to snatch sales from you, as it sounds like you have a ton more boards there than I do. I'm just cleaning out my stash of System 6 stuff because I don't have any more Sys 6 games (other than my Alien Poker that ends today on ebay.)

I put up a lot of decent System 6 boards, some repairable/parts System 6 boards, some good 6 digit displays/master display board, some untested and bad ones too...and some System 6 power supplies. Will be interesting to see what they go for. So far, not much bidding action on them, but might give you an idea of what the market will bear.

Posting the link just for the sake of market research; I already have an FA: post in the classifieds section.

I used to pick up untested boards all the time, then just sit down and crank out a stack of repairs since I could get into a zone doing it. Generally speaking these boards are not difficult to fix, especially if you've got decent troubleshooting skills.

Keep me in-mind if you happen to have a WPC-95 A/V board in that bunch. I have one that I've been able to keep limping along, but could use another to experiment with. Maybe between two of them I could make one fully-working. LOL

No shipping to Canada? I was planning to buy all of the displays and boards but I'm sure shipping them out to a bunch of different people for less than I would have paid is more convenient.

ya, put me at the bottom of the list for any 1990-2000 williams boards, displays, etc.

im not going to hold my breath cause of so many in front of me but

*fingers crossed*
