when you sell them to others, what joystick do you put in? the first one i sold had a switchable 4way-8way stick.. but all of the ones on ebay, Cl, etc look to have just an 8way..

i am looking for quick turnaround on about 4 more multicades and i dont want to have to deal with shipping delays and stuff.. i have regular 8 way joysticks on hand..

more importantly, one will be used in a shop, so customers wont really be able to switch.. just 8-way it?

i just put two 8-ways in the cocktail i sold awhile back. the guy i was selling to just wanted the game to play. im sure he doesnt even notice on 4-way games.

i dont think the average multicade buyer knows or cares about 4 or 8 way joysticks. every one i have seen has had an 8 way in it, and they work fine for almost everything but the pac games. hell, even my mame cab has an 8 way, and i am way into pac games. doesnt bother me anymore, if i want to play a "Real" game of ms pac i go to the laundromat. i can still have fun playing a slightly less scoring game at home with an 8 way joystick.

unless the person is buying it just for pac man, or just for dig dug, or whatever 4 way game, i dont think 99.9% of people will know or care its an 8 way joystick.

I have an 8 way in mine, and it's hard to tell the difference on most games. Donkey Kong controls almost the same on my cocktail as it does on my 60-in-1 upright.

Just use what you have laying around. The average consumer dosent care, as long as its pretty and does the job. If you need to order, my vote is 4-way.

No no no. I can tell you guys either don't sell a lot or offer little to no support for your games. Definitely put 4-ways in there. Trust me. I'll get a hundred calls from customers telling me that their Ms. Pac doesn't seem to respond properly (due to the 8-way), but I NEVER get a customer calling me complaining they can't go diagonally in Xevious (due to the 4-way)....

any particular manufacturer/model you would recommend for the 4 way?

Depends on the cab. regular red-balltop 4-ways are nice, but sometimes the shaft is too short depending on the control panel.

A lot of those newer joysticks have the actuator that you can flip over to choose 4-way or 8-way. Set it up for 4-way, but show them how to change it if they ever want to...

Well I say a 4-way for the 60-1 and a certainly two 8 ways for the 19-1. The question is, which way to go for the Taito Multi peeps here keep talking about. I haven't even heard of some of the games on there, but I think my old Taito cab (already JAMMA, not by me) would like to have one of those in it.
