I'm building a multi MK and had a question for all you MK guru's on the forum. Are the special and finishing moves the same from MK1 to MK4? I know that there are more characters but say with Sub-Zero, are his moves the same in Mk1 and MK2, MK3 etc... or are they different? I would like to order one of the move bezels and was hoping to use a MK4 and the moves would be correct no matter which game you are playing.

I'm in the process of getting all my hardware together (I've got everything but a MK4 board) and can start to turn my attention to the cosmetic side of the build.

Thanks in advance for any input on this.

Finishers and how to perform them changed with each game. They had to keep you coming back to figure them out. :D

Well don't that just suck. Was hoping they stayed the same through out the line.

Kind of curious if you've ever even played Mortal Kombat now.

Never played either of the 3's or the 4, played 1 quite a bit back in the day and only played 2 a few times back then (but really was not going to the arcade to much by the time 2 came out). Had not played any of them in roughly 20 years until I started buying them here recently.
My MK1 was together and we would play it. Right after I brought home the MK2 the monitor called it quits (I might have played 2 rounds on it). Then I decided to put them all in one cab so I could save space and not have to deal with 5 different cabs/monitors so I didn't bother fixing the monitor.
That gets us up to date and I'm just about done collecting all the pieces to start assembly. So basically my knowledge base of them is 20 years old .

Kind of cool that you have never logged much time on 2/3/4 ... so much to discover.

A Mortal Multi would be kind of cool... yeah lot's to learn and practice... Babality, Friendship Fatality, combos, different characters... it's a trip.

In my opinion, the only ones you need are MKII and UMK3. Once I dove into MKII, I couldn't go back to MK. The original was great when it came out, but is nothing more than a nostalgic novelty now. I can't play it anymore. It's just not fun to me. MKII is the sweet spot for me. Definitely more to explore and do in MKII and even more in UMK3. Looking forward to the MKII revision with the hidden characters playable.

I've already got the MK1, MK2, and UMK3 in hand. The MK3 should be on its way today and I'm not in a rush to find the MK4 board. The switcher and the kick harness condenser are in hand as well as the jamma extensions. I've already ordered and received the molex connectors to build the harnesses from the boards to the condenser.

I'm looking forward to being able to flip between all of them and figuring out the tricks of each one. Another question is I want to replace the joysticks and curious which to go with. What is the general concensus on this?

Sorry but the current generation of the HAPP competition stick are crap. the acurracy is not nearly what the IL sticks are and it's especially noticeable on the fighting games where there are circular motions.

True that in the 90's it was actually HAPP branded sticks but the ones offered today are not of the same caliber and that is why many prefer the IL stick.

I learned this the hard way by buying all Happ for my KI restore and I threw them in the trash shortly after.

You need to go back in time and un-ask this question. It will not end well.

Why is that, wasn't it stated before that HAPP outsourced to IL in the 90s?

Duder could buy one of a few different sticks and make his own choice since it's not a dedicated cab it won't really matter. Personally I like IL euros w/ heavy springs.

I mean for the fact that the debate that will ensue. I prefer the Happs because the ILs are too sensitive, but you have a good point.

ah, completely understood. that debate should be referred to that thread (I definitely wasn't looking to open it here).

OP as mentioned tho, finding a cabinet would be a better choice than building one but you can definitely do it either way.

Well I tried to order from paradise the IL stick but it would appear they are out of stock. Our more precise it would only let me put 1 in cart to match inventory.

It is a MK2 cab that all of this is going in. The MK2 cab was a lot nicer than the MK1 cab I have.
