Hi guys,
My wife and I have been looking at houses with me focusing on Garages for obvious reasons, lol... Do you think having a washer/dryer in the garage is bad for our games? Besides taking up space for 2 games and detracting from the gameroom feel, Do you think it ups the humidity and may be bad for games in general or am I just being a loon? So far, I've been automatically dismissing houses if the washer/dryer are located in the proposed mancave, heh.

Thanks,
Tom

Is humidity a problem in your area? I have a few of my games in the garage with the washer/dryer and I haven't experienced a problem yet. They will raise the humidity slightly, but proper ventilation of the dryer exhaust should help minimize it. I actually appreciate the washer and dryer being in the garage. It helps warm the area up during the winters here, but I doubt that is a plus in CA.

cant speak for being in the garage but my house has the washer dryer in the house and the house I grew up in did as well. both have/had vents for the dryer exhaust to exit the house. Never noticed any humidity.

I have both washer and dryer in my gameroom garage and use the space on my dryer to place my counter top touchscreen on it. I really don't notice any humidity issues with my games but when you have 20 machines running in the winter time it's like having an indoor heater but not so during the summertime it can get really hot in there.

I'd be more worried about the space they take up, and the ruining of the 'mancave' space than the humidity.

Also, think about the noise. Sure, they more than likely won't be running during a party, but even playing a game while you're waiting for some clothes will kind of ruin the moment a little bit, I would think.

I'm on your side. You get the garage, get a nice, open, empty space!

I haven't had any problems at all Tom.
If you remember also I have a curtain covering the area also just in case your worried about dust.
But, I can honestly say I have had no problems with it. except it would be nice if I had that space for games instead.

As an added precaution you may want one of those metal drain trays that they use for washers inside homes. I doubt most people use them in a garage but if you have games there too it might be smart to help avoid flooding if there is a leak or back up.

heheh thanks guys. I will report back to the wife and let her know my KLOV brethren say the washer and dryer in the garage will absolutely ruin the wood and artwork on my games. We need a home with the washer/dryer inside the house :D

The wife will love it!

For even added ambience, get a few guys from your local home depot to "bring" you the coin-op detergent dispensers and candy machines from the laundry-mart for the complete "coin-op" experience. Hell, for a few bucks more, I'm sure you could get the sections of fiberglass seats too...waiting patrons and all!! ;) Hehe!

No, don't do that, it's just a joke....am I banned now ???... Hehe!

Touchscreen on your dryer? That's almost as bad as people who have games in their living room or dinning room.
