I've actually got this figures out ... I think..
Thanks to ajcrm125's own PunchOut repair video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSZz0C7AdZE
I learned that there are basically only two different sets of PO proms.
(...as far as I can tell... )
And that both sets are merely mirror images of each other
based on which video decoder mux was used on the board.
From the info in ajcrm125's video,
he states that the usual video decoders should be LS353's,
and that these use the "standard" color proms.
However, he speculates that in later boards, LS353 chips became harder
to source, so Nintendo used LS153's (...which do not inverse the address lines),
so that "mirrored" proms were needed.
I have since reversed the data on the "standard" color proms to work with the LS153.
I have successfully provided these "reversed" prom to another KLOV'er,
and they worked out great.
So if you have LS353 chips (located near the color proms),
you would need the "standard" color proms.
If you have the LS153 chips, you need the "reversed" proms ?
Clear as mud ?
;-)
