Question for all the resellers or flippers out there

I buy games from time to time with no desire to keep them just to flip them to help fund my collection and move different games in and out to keep the kids and wife interested. Anyway my question is I usually go through them as I was keeping them I mean overlays, joysticks art whatever. I have taken a beating on the last 2 centipede's in particular. On lesser known games is it worth dropping 45 bucks plus the time for a overlay?
Thanks

If you can't sell a centipede at a good price then odds are you are not going to be able to move lesser known titles. Don't waste the extra cash.

You only do the extra stuff on higher end games generally. 90% of the buyers out there want the game for the cheapest possible price. I often have a couple games in the warehouse that have had new overlays installed. I will show the person buying a game the machine that they are looking for. Then I will show them that you can make the machines look better by doing certain things to it. Ill show them several different other machines and explain that doing extra things is an option, if they want that option, fine and explain how much extra it will cost.

twistedquarter sells a huge cpo sheet for like $8. It's all black

I can do 3 cp's with it.

Wives are more likely to let their husband bring a game into the house if it doesn't look like shit. If you have a game that looks decent, then just clean it up, make it work, and try to sell it. But if you pick up a Centipede with a torn up CPO and are trying to get $300+ for it, spend the $45. It will be a lot easier to sell, and you can always add the $50 into the price...

it really all depends on what market you're going for. if you're planning on selling it to the guy with a mancave, clean it up, replace the cpo, and ask a good price for it. but if you're selling it to the arcade collector/hobbyist, do the minimum required to get it working and then sell it for the most profit you can get.

This is what I try to accomplish hoping It would appeal to the casual collector the die hard doesn't care. But the wife buying for the husband or the casual player might make a difference. But is a karate champ or a zaxxon that's not great to begin with worth it?

Depends on how bad it is. If it's just dirty, or has some minor damage, then no. If it's ripped to hell and is barely there, then even a generic $8 CPO in a solid color could be the difference between $100 and $200. You have to decide if the time to do it is worth the extra money you could make...

I don't think karate champ or zaxxon command a great price. Probably looking about $250 tops unless the game is mint. Even then I would only think top would be $400 and that might be pushing it. If I were trying to turn a profit i couldn't see putting any money into those titles unless they were free. Even then I'd only spend around $50 tops.

I think the 60 in 1 is in more demand than anything for the casual person. It allows them to have so many games in one machine. If your going to make the multi machines, I would buy new control panel overlays and marquees, I wouldn't worry to much about side art. I know a guy constantly selling multi machines for around 750$ and he usually has no more than 350$ into everything. I also am about to sell them , I have heard from him that people but them like crazy around xmas and he can easily get 850$ for them then

It's seldom worth it to put any real money into a game with the goal of making cash. If that's your motivation then the average CL buyer won't pay extra for all that work and money you have put into it. The average CL buyer happens across and ad for a Centipede and goes "Hey, a Centipede." And then they look to see a price and they either jump or they don't.

I've never ever ever had a non-collector turn down a game because the artwork wasn't really nice. My experience is that an average cabinet (or even a fairly rough one) will usually bring in about the same amount of cash as a really nice one.

That is, unless we are talking about collectors of course. Or people from high-end areas who want absolutely pristine things in their game rooms.

A wise man wouldn't have driven to Elizabethtown for that shit!:D

I hate selling to the general public. I stick to pre-selling everything I track down, or only getting universally recognized titles. Solves the issue of trying to get rid of it later.

I don't try to make money, either. I just try to enjoy myself, buy under market and sell above, and not lose too much $ on this very expensive hobby.

Your right but I've already gotten my money back on just one. I should be able to make a couple hundred with very little work. They all worked in less than 15 min. But shit indeed

Nice!
Your kids might actually like that one.

Nope, never seen it. My experience....storage facility sell-offs are usually waterlogged garbage.....like that shit in Jeffersonville a couple weeks ago.
