Somewhat of a noob question regarding a flyback. I removed the flyback prior to cap kit time on a 7401 chassi. Long story short upon examining the fbt I noticed hairline cracks above the focus and following around on one side. I did put in a new Flyback and awaiting test.

I was told you could use silicone to seal the crack so it won't arc. Not sure if this is worth saving it or safe. There are no internals leaking from the unit.

Please let me know.

In my opinion, toss it. I'm with you, I'd save it if you could, but the 7400 and 7500 flybacks are really bad about focus and brightness 'drifting'. You'll leave the game on, and the brightness and focus will change, back and forth, the whole time the game is on. The reason is because the pots inside the flyback suck, the only fix is a new flyback.

So while the flybacks don't go bad too often and yours is probably still working, it's probably also got screwed up focus and brightness pots so you wouldn't be able to use it anyways.

My opinion!

Thank you. I do agree with you on the focus. I had a neotec do this and a new flyback took care of it!

Thanks again.

Yep, just did a K7500 chassis that had a cracked fly. I knew it was bad because after it was on around 3 minutes or so the focus would go out. You could "chase" the focus, but definitely the fly had to be replaced.
