Question about surface mount caps for repairing X-Men sound chip

Go buy a small bottle of liquid rosin flux and do it this way:

Clean the pads of solder... put a thin coat of liquid rosin on the pads.

Line the cap up on the pad. Put a thin coat of liquid rosin on the pads/leads.

Put a small ball of solder on a chisel tip or a conical chisel tip (hard to do with a conical tip) and touch it to the pad and lead simultaneously. The rosin will help the solder wick over the pad and lead. Pull the iron away and the leg will be soldered to the pad.

Thanks again for the reply, Channelmanic; it's very much appreciated. I'll give that method a try. Walking away from it for now was the best thing I could have done. I currently have a conical tip so I'll look at getting a chisel tip for my iron. I'm sure I can find some other toys to order with it. :) On the plus side, I used my denatured alcohol to clean up my working 6 player board. Corrosion wise I don't see any problems with the pins so hopefully just swapping the caps down the road will be all it needs. Overall it was probably in the best condition visually next to my 4 player board which also just started to show signs of leaking. Those 2 boards should be the "easiest" to save.
