Random question for any Star Rider folks who might know:

Star Rider comes in two cabinet styles, an upright, and a 'cockpit' (i.e. sit-down) .

Can the motorcycle seat front section of the sit-down be removed to basically make it an upright?

(i.e., is the main cabinet part the same, but the sit-down just adds an extra piece on the front (and maybe the wheel on the back too), and can you basically remove that piece to effectively make a sit-down into an upright?)

I'm just trying to understand how different the two cab types are. Thanks in advance.

My buddy Marcel could help as he has one. I sent him a link to this post

Like vectorcollector said, the profiles of the main cabinet are different. I used to have an upright, now i have a sitdown, and the upright was taller. I guess the plastic seat can be removed and from what I can see its not a few bolts and that's that. In the end you will end up with a base which is a thick wood plank spanning the length of the seat and the main cabinet. You can saw off the remaining portion and dress up the front face since you will have the steering column hardware visible. Inside the seat are the rear speakers as well so you going to have to move them into the main cabinet.

the large front wheel comes off (board access)to make it slightly smaller to move around. I only had the sitdown, but I don't think it had anything unique to it.

Ahhh, nailed it. Thanks VC. That basically answers my original question. Great find. I hadn't found that flyer, but that's the detail I was after, and the manual wasn't clear.

That said, it sounds like you could 'convert' a sit-down to a pseudo-upright, without totally destroying it, which is also good to know. Not that I'd want to cut up an original cab, but I'm space limited, so cleanly modding one to save space is desirable. (I'd save all of the parts of course if I did do it, to make it reversible). But I'd rather just find an upright.

Mucho thanks for all the info, everyone.

Did the sit down version try to simulate a surround sound for the audio. I thought there were some extra speakers for the sit down version???

It's been yearssssss since I played Star Rider - sit down or upright.

A game I would love to scratch off in the 2018 list.

I don't think it had anything different. I am pretty sure there was nothin in the seat. It's not like sinistar cockpit which has added sound board. I sold mine to joe abate about 10+ years ago.

There are two speakers placed close to the back of the seats. You do hear stuff fading in/out as you pass bikes.

Indeed, and it has four amps and separate channels so about as close to surround sound as you are likely to get from a machine from that era. Having said that so does the upright it's just they are mounted just under the monitor (spatially this sound arrangement doesn't work as well). In fact, if you look at the sitdown the blanks are in the plastic molding where the speakers shoud go.
