So I acquired a non-working Sea Wolf and have a question about the PCB. I did confirm that the PCB is the problem as the game works fine with borrowed PCB

The PCB looks relativity basic. I've read on pin repair that the ROMs usually cause these to fail.

So my questions are...what are the beige dime size components on the board? It looks like there are a couple missing and at least a couple broken from the board...and does Bob Roberts sell them?

Also does anyone have a picture of a working board I can compare mine too? It looks like there are a couple spots that did have these components on the left hand side but I'd like to confirm.

Here's a pic

Thanks!

Yeah.. I'm gonna probably send it to them if I can't get it. I'll start by replacing those components an reburn some ROMs.

And yes.. I do need professional help =)

I can't answer your questions, but I can tell you that Elektron Forge (Alex Y.) specializes in Sea Wolf board repairs if you need a professional's help.

The round things are ceramic capacitors, they help clean/stabilize the power feed to the chips. If any are missing they should be replaced (may be easiest to just find a cheap junk board with the right caps), and any broken ones should def be replaced as they could be shorting the 5v. Right off the bat I see some questionable spots in the ram area - possibly mouse urine or did something blow up there?

As for the caps, they should have a number like 103 or 104...just find a similiar cap with the same number. I can't remember what they are off the top of my head.

Also seeing how many roms you have, chances are they may be 2708s, so don't attempt to replace those with any newer roms without changing the rom strapping (do a search in the repair section). They appear to be good shape so if no legs are falling off you may be ok in the rom dept.

I can tackle this for you in a couple months if you're still in need...I'm moving in a couple weeks and I'll have an actual shop with a real workbench and a Sea Wolf game to test with if everything works out. I can't wait! :)

Yeah.. these have 104 on them.

Are they Are they readily available for purchase somewhere?

I don't know the history on the board but it does look in decent shape
