Question about Q-Bert Swearing Marquee

I dont have the answer, but to toot my own horn I bought a Q*bert with a blacked out Faster, Harder, More Challenging Q*bert Marquee.

Beat that action!

If I am correct, I believe that the swearing marquee belonged to early production games. Later on, though, the more common Q*bert marquee was used.

Yes, you can order a swearing marquee from arcadeoverlays.com .
He doesnt list them on his site, but trust me - hes got em. Reproduction non silk prints. Good enough for mine!

Oh,
and from what I read, my understanding is that they were on the earlier machines, but were taken off as no none knew what to call the game. Although, the name logo was placed below the cp so......?
Personally I like it better with the swearing marquee as I think it looks dumb with the same logo above and below the screen. But thats just my tastes.

Last I checked, Darin (Phoenix Arcade) still had some Q-Bert marquees that weren't listed on his website. I can't remember which one it was though.....

good looking machine there joe.

i went ahead and emailed darin regarding the "swearing" marquees. he's still got a few of them left for sale! i just went ahead and ordered one from him. very cool fo' sho. chris

Thanks!! I also ordered one.

Swearing marquee was used on the first production machines. Im not sure how many were made but I would guess not many judging on the rarity of the original swearing marquees. I was lucky to score an original for my machine, I like the swearing marquee much better.

The faster harder more challenging (FHMC) game was a rom update. I believe the kit came with a sticker that went over the original marquee.

anyone have any pics of the "The faster harder more challenging (FHMC)" marquee?? sounds cool.

From what I understand, that kit wasnt supposed to leave the building. The marquee I have is a FHMC marquee, but it was screened like any other. But, when they decided not to release the game, the white lettering looks like it was sprayed black, then the typical white over the back again.

On mine its so faint you cant really see it, ill try to take a pic, but its really hard to see, but a FHMC marquee nonetheless.

Show us a pic of the "real" swearing marquee!
Here's a pic of my real swearing marquee... found in a crappy old collapsing barn... check out all the crap in the bottom of that cabinet. I was sure it was gonna have a mouse family in it but I wanted to get it outta there before the Op realized why I wanted to buy such a POS so I took it whole.

This is the "swearing" marquee that Darin made. He also made the "Real" swearing marquee (Q-Bert Attitutude Marquee according to Darin):
