I've been looking everywhere for one of these machine with no luck except for one on Ebay. I was wondering weren't most Vs. machines just a kit that was converted from a DK, or Popeye cabinet? Also, was this game 2 player? what color was the cabinet?
Thanks,
Kane

Castlevania is a very highly sought after kit for collectors. It is a hard to find title and when it surfaces, it's spendy. There was never a dedicated cabinet, it was just shoved into the standard Vs. cabinet.

Side Note: I wish between Phet and Rikitiki someone would create some badass looking plexi bezel and cpo for the game.

Im guessing the pcb/rom chip set/ppu/cpu is worth a good chunk of change, I know where I can get one

This is where I chime in and tell everyone how my dumbass bought a working Vs. cabinet with Castlevania in it for $150 at Kalamazoo SuperAuction in 2003 or 4. I ended up selling it like a year later.

I guess this is where i jump in and say.... You can get the PCB cheap. Find a topgun board, pop a Castlevania rom chip in it... get yourself a nice nintendo cab to throw it in :)

Is there any difference between vs. Castlevania and Playchoice Castlevania, besides the title screen?

There was an older thread on the differences, but here are just a few -

1) Enemies deal double damage
2) The time counter is significantly shorter

The stages are exactly the same and there are few gameplay differences, most of which are detremental to speedrunners rather than regular players. For instance, right before you move down the stairs in level one to go to the castle's swamp basement, you can kneel on the last platform and then jump as a bird is moving beneath you to use the hit as you touch the bird to make it over the wall on the right of the screen, bypassing the whole lower section of the castle - you can't do this in the arcade version from what I know.

Aren't these due to dipswitch settings? ie if you changed the settings the counter would be longer and enemies easier.

This part I was unaware of. Could this be due to the dipswitch setting?
